Hatchback STi towing opinions
HI all currently looking at a new STI hatch 300. 95% of the time i will be driving "normally" and 5% I will have to tow the family caravan. Has anyone experience of this and how do they tow? The dealers say they can fit the tow bar. I know this is an odd one but I don't want to drive an old slug 4x4 etc just to get the benefit of the odd time i tow. I would sooner have it the other way round if you understand me.
On paper it looks good weighs 1500kg or so 4x4 and has 300 lb of torque which is shed loads more than the current tow car has. I know i might offend a few with even the idea but i have to balance holidays with my "need for speed".
Any thoughts appreciated

I'm not sure about the Hatch but the towing capacities of the Newage cars are pretty rubbish and maxed out at 1200kg if iirc so there is no way you'd be towing that car on a trailer.

It's 1200kg, what you can tow a caravan, from what you have put up, so your MTPLM on your caravan must be less than 1200kg which is pretty crap for towing. What caravan do you have and I can check it on my computer at w**k tomorrow.
The weight of the car has little to do with what you can tow as it takes into account other factors of the car.

Mark does the trailer have a braking system on it? If it has a braked weight of 1200kg and the car has a MTPLM( max tow capacity) of 1200kg then you "should" be ok, though if you do get stopped and the police have any doubt, they will take you to a weigh bridge and then there will be no arguments. The car has a weight plate as should the trailer

Mark the best way to check your cars tow capacity, there should be a weight plate, either in the drivers door well or under the bonnet. There will be 4 sets of weights, take the second highest weight from the highest and you will have your MTPLM(tow capacity) in KG'S
