Went to see an STi today
Ok, so I fell in love at first sight ...
05 plate UK WRX STi .. in like a gray/sliver type colour .. either way it was awesome ...
Been offered £4k as part ex on my MY99 ... which I thought was excellent ..
Just need to convince the wife now
From those that have experienced the change, will I notice much of an improvement between a stand MY99 and an 05 STi ??

You'll like it but tbh there's little point comparing the two.
They are completely different, New Ages are exactly that, a new car rather than an improved car.
I love my NewAge for different reasons to the classic Wagon I also have. The Wagon is the one that makes me feel alive though !
Also depends on how bespoke your '99 was and if you will need to play with the new one to suit your performance and handling preferences.
Congrats though, always nice to get a new car...

Chalk and cheese, I loved my classic as well, but the New-Age cars are so "planted", sadly I went out in a 2.5 Type-R last night and was instantly in love.....

Have you driven one ?
Mr. Felstead did rather well in round one of the Scoobysprint series.
I would expect to bag a hawkeye for £12K, a silver/grey STI has just been sold by a club member for £11K.

Used prices have been going up since May due to the shortage. It's quite rare but the Glass' Guides were going up rather than down. The used market is buoyant and so deals done at the beginning of the year were the best time to buy.
I'd check the figures in the current Glass' Guide rather than be guided by people who got deals earlier in the year.

That was a JDM car though?
For what its worth I have one.
Infact its the same colour - crystal grey.
Its the best subaru I've had out of the whol bunch.
From new and all UK cars I've had an MY98, and MY00, an MY02 STI (the prodrive style version) and now the MY05 car.
MY05 handles so much better than how the MY02 did.
As a standard UK car, performance is poor in my opinion.
They at least need the PPP fitted.
My 05 car has since been remapped by Andy Forrest and the difference between that and even the PPP map is night and day.
Its a good car, in fact Andy Forrest even said that the 05 cars were the best of the whole lot.

I think the 4k trade in is based on the relatively high price of the 05 car.
I want more than scrap value on my UK MY99 wagon (40k miles), and bought a 54 plate JDM STI for 11k in April; hence currently have 2 on the driveway.
Comparing the new age and the classic, they are very different. On pitted, bumpy roads with potholes, etc; I'm sure the classic is faster. Ultimately, the newage STI has more grip, is more refined, quieter and arguably a more rounded car.
On WOT it's videogame fast, and anything beyond 6500 rpm feels insane.
I'd have both if I had the space and an understanding other half :-)
