Most people will tell you use a panel filter not an induction kit because they draw hot air into the engine, then they lift their bonnet & voila!!! an induction kit sitting there
Make your own choice mate thats wot I say

ive had an k&n induction kit that done away with the resinator box on mine but after reading threads on here people saying you'll loose power if youre car is'nt making more than 350 bhp i took it of and ran a k&n panel which i am running at mo.
now in my estimation i thought the car with the induction kit felt a lot torkier and pulled cleaner through the rev range.
what i intend to do is wait for a group rolling road in the south (come on people lets arrange one) then try both
so like tom above says its up to you , try it for your self and see !!
cheers carl

also maybe a different route i'm thinkin about at the moment: one of the inductuion kits in the engine bay, but with a scoop/vent on the bonnet like on some classics.
has this been done? and would this work?

I've got a setup similar to that, with HKS hard pipe IK and a scoop over it, but if I had a chance I'd convert it back to the standard air box with a good panel filter as mentioned above as I'm a bit concerned with intake temps. I also heard that they could draw in water during heavy rain (if the blanking plate underneath is removed - mine is still partly in place) and that can sometimes damage the MAF if it gets through the filter.
I got the car with the IK already fitted, however if I was starting from standard I would leave the existing air box in place and use a panel filter until I felt the need to install a FMIC, then I would use a sealed IK like a typhoon or similar with a cold air feed from the wing etc.
Hope that helps mate

makes me decide for the AEM one thats in the wing anyway then
probably remove the foglight and drill a few holes in the foglight cover...

I am no expert at all and quite a noob as i have only had the car a short while but i was advised by many a member to get the panel filter, problem was that i was asking which one to get after my usual drunken visit to fleabay and shortly after got an email saying i had successfully won the auction for a Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) IK.
So got it delivered and it looks the business, excellent fit and sounded great, you can hear the turbo spool up nicely and get a good sound from the DV.
After reading a lot of bad press about the intake temps with IKs i decided to track down the SPT heat shield, again delivered, looked the business and was an excellent fit.
Now i have no way of measuring figures like temp or bhp/torque at the moment as i still cant decide what bloody exhaust i need so i am waiting until then for the remap and dyno but all i can say is, it looks great, was piece of wee wee to fit and so far havent had any snags at all with it.
Only my 10p worth..............
