Default Problems with Buyer And parts bought off here......

Hi all

Problem for me...

Here goes bought second hand suspension off a member on here, got home happy.
Advert stated 1 shock needed looking at the adjuster rod needed repairing or replacing the bit that alters the damping.
I thought ok fair price so i,ll take the risk and deal was done.
Seller stated on the advert that he had phoned tein himself and he had been given a verbal quote to fix said problem. In the region of £60/100.

I have sent the shock unit to Tein and have given me a list of parts to make shock safe... bill for £312 or there abouts for work plus vat.

First instance i have asked for my money back.... and he is refusing to.
He said they were fine on his car.I only bought these a week ago....

Now what does one do...

Please advise.......

Either get them fixed or sell as is - by all means flog them on ebay but don't hide the fact one is knackered. Your no better than the guy who sold them to you then.

£312+vat for one shock to be repaired? How much is one shock new then?

Even if you get that one fixed, that one will be mint and the other 3 will still be part worn so they'll never work together properly.

Thanks guys for the prompt response.

Shocks were bought in the Midlands i live in the south !!

Doubt Seller would of allowed me send shock off to Tein before i committed though and they have charged me £50 for postage and Inspection.

Has Taught Me A lesson.......

I don,t want to put them on Ebay just to give the problem to someone else.

I didnt mean flog them without telling them one was fooked, just the same info as he bought them on. Like you say £312+ vat seems pricey to fix, people other than tein will be able to fix them surely.

cheers tingtong i was as honest as to my knowledge surely if they was as damaged as much as buyer making out he would have picked up on it and also i would have felt it in the car as they was fitted to my own personal car

the pricing for repair doesnt add up as to costs on teins website there even addeding in new pillowball tops for no aparent reason and a repair to a seized ring sets that i clearly showed craig the buyer how easy they move bye unscrewwing them by hand when unlocked...

Not denying that fella, it just took me 3 attempts to try work out what it was your saying, sorry

Seriously, it doesn't look good to customers either if the employer is using text speak.

Also, the guy didn't mention your name did he, so how come he'd gone public? I do agree with the majority on this, though. Should have done his homework before buying.

I can see it from everyones point of view. Yes the advert did say that one shock needing looking at and that it was £60 approx for the parts. That seemed reasonable to me and I did ring Tein to check the cost. However, I could not have anticipated that there would be more wrong with the shock when Tein had a thorough inspection of it.

So I did do my homework as much as I could. I very much doubt that Tein are trying to rip me off with their evaluation of what needs to be done.

Please find below the email I got from Tein.

With standard overhaul fee (GBP60.00 +vat for Flex), there are additional items for changing.

This damper will need the following:
·A piston shaft and almost all other internal parts replacing.
·We have included a new dust boot, which requires a new design bump rubber.
·A new seat lock (for either lower bracket or one of the 2 to change ride height).
·Replacement pillow ball and supply pillow collar.
·Thread refurbishment
·Click assembly (supply and fit).

For this service, the charge is GBP310.00+ vat and includes delivery back to you.

Normally at this level for 1 damper, we would strongly suggest replacing the entire kit as there is no guarantee how long the others may last before overhaul is necessary, plus the cost of overhauling all 4 as a precaution, puts the price close to a new TEIN Super Street with Upper-mounts (QSS12-BVSS4) which has a list price of GBP890.00+ vat.

Please discuss these points with your customer.

If your customer does agree to overhaul, we would also like to supply another pillow collar, as without this, it is likely that damage could occur to the piston shaft under mildest of circumstances.

It sounds like Tein are having a bit of a laugh !

They 'recommend' you get them to refurbish all 4 shocks, which at their prices will cost somewhere around £1400+ or you can just buy completely new ones for half the price ???

Sounds like they don't really want to fix them so are quoting a stupid price, and are just trying to get more sales for themselves of their new ones.

im glad you have posted that craig as its show to the extent ov the extra work the quoting for thinks you would have seen when you pick up like

the damaged thread that needs refurbing on the body

the sit locks that are seized the excact 1s i showed you how free all the rings are by unlocking them with the spanners and adjusting by hand in front ov you to see

the pillow ball that is perfect condition bar abit ov colour fading what they all do

there is more to that quote when you emailed it over to me like the abs sensor bracket that is ment to be broken off the 1 that was perfectly intact when you came and picked them up which i have pictures to prove so have you even sent them the shocks i sold to you??it doesnt sound like it
