Me again ...

Still struggling between getting another car or keeping this one.

MY99 Centre cat removed and panel filter ..

Taking it in to get brakes sorted and was thinking of maybe increasing the BHP..

I'm not looking to spend silly money, I dont have silly money to spend, but wondered what sort of things would you do, maximum BHP increase for cheapest spending type thing ??

I would have thought I remap is a defo ? can I get this cheaper than the £500 I keep reading about ?

Thoughts?

Maybe get a downpipe to complement the exhaust you already have, and then a remap?
Add Headers and up-pipe bigger turbo, depends on your budget mate.

I would mate, tell them what you want, how much you have to spend and im sure they will sort you out. You could make a big difference with a well spent grand!

I've emailed them and asked them for their advice, worst case they do my brakes for me so I'm giving them business.

My99 UK Turbo - 215bhp standard. With a decat (you're half way there) about 230-235bhp maybe. (This was the stage I was at before having to sell last year).

£550 remap will see you 270-280bhp and a better running car bespoke to your driving style, and probably better MPG too... not bad for a car running 60bhp+ over standard to have better fuel economy.

I'd find the extra few quid and get the remap.

Would it not be worth me spending any more and getting other bits before the remap ?

I would change the fuel pump aswell mate if you are going for a re-map. But depends on budget. If you've got the cash then a new turbo, injectors and fuel pump then re-map.

Sorry mate,

I mean would I be worth spending the extra few hundred and getting some more bits now, then getting it remapped, rather than having to have it mapped again in the future ?

I'm trying to convince the lady to let me spend £1000 .. any thoughts of the BHP for that ?

If you are planning on adding extra bits to the car it may be worth getting it mapped afterwards otherwise you'll have to get it mapped again afterwards.

STI intercooler & downpipe make a good cheap upgrade

In that case my good man I would personally do the following...
  • Decat downpipe £75s/h-150ish new (second hand maybe to save ££)
  • 3 port boost solenoid (erm pass on ££ but no massive)
  • Walbro 255 fuel pump (£80ish)
  • S/h turbo, VF24 etc etc £250-300
  • Remap
That from what I've read and spoken to tuners about on here, should see you touch 300/300 bhp/lb ft. With a good map. Plus your engine won't be maxxed out and neither will your gearbox at that power.

That's what I would personally do, especially considering the ££ be saved getting a couple btis second hand mate

The biggest increase I noticed in performance when I had my old car was going from an ecutek ecu to an apexi. Also the td05 is a cracking cheap turbo and my favorite one when it was fitted

Tdo5 was always my favorite. On a classic I would run that with an STI8 tmic and an apexi ecu Make sure you get andyf to map it

On my UK '99 car, after centre and backbox I did downpipe, with off the shelf Ecutek map, with conservative 1.18 boost. If you're careful, running this without the remap should be fine in the short term.

This was great, til I wanted a little extra; and decided to follow Andy Forrest's advice on going with the smallest turbo suitable, a hybrid TD04, uprated fuel pump, and proper map.
In retrospect, I should have got the turbo inlet pipe fitted at the same time.

Also, the Scooby mag article did recommend a 3" exhaust, not sure if that's what you've got.
