Default which subaru performace company would you use for big mods?

it probably comes down to personal preference i'd imagine but what experience do people have on here of the various companies out there offering staged modifications?

I had a look at Andy Forest Performance yesterday at that was very convincing - especially with all the 9 second quarter mile run news! he doesnt fit th parts though and i think theyre based in scotland.

Obviously there is scooby clinic, tsl, and loads of other would justlike to hear peoples experiences - whether or not you get good value for money etc etc, bhp figures are as good, if you returned for more...

Cheers,

what level of tune do you want to go to and how reliable do you want it to be?

at the min if your looking for 450bhp ish then i think the clinic sc450 package is by far the market leader in terms of cost and reliability. the development engine is still going strong even after competing shootout last year and only coming 0.8 seconds behind gobstopper in a road car with full interior. for £12000 i think it is, including the gearbox and clutch then its a bit of a bargin.

API without a second thought. Have a word with David on the phone and you'll be sold.

Roger Clark if money is no object and you don't mind waiting quite a while!

If you want to build an engine there is only one man and that is Chy at Pennine Subaru. There are a few on here (Banny, Fai17, StiFreak) who are having their's done with him at the moment as well as myself!

i have never used erc but all i have heard is great thing about them but that does come at a cost, personaly i use David and the team from API and i can not fault them one little bit. they go out of thier way to look after the customer, supply endless amounts of tea and coffee and a very tastey bacon and egg roll to go with. even if money was no object i would still return there time and time again.

and tidgy that £12k does not include vat so you if you add that £13800 ish (i think) which ian all honesty is the ball park figure from any big tuner as i have spoke with most and they all come in around the £10-£11k mark inc vat without the gearbox as i havea 6 speed already i think SC450 without the box is about £9k but add vat and thats £10350 so they a re all much a like in pricing

best of luck what ever way you go though

I think you might be confusing my car for the car you are talking about. My car does not have anyones 'development engine' in it. My Spec D is the fully trimmed road car that came that close to the Gobstopper in 2008. It is relatively mildly modified, the parts were fitted by API and it was mapped by Bob Rawle.

Kind regards,

Robin

i went to pennine subaru for my build, the only words that springs to mind is total nightmare.the only reason i kept going back there is because evertime i picked the car back up there was something else wrong with it.i'm sure he's not the same with everyone but that was just my experience.

Another vote for RE Motorsport here !

Like RCMS you may have to wait, but it will be right, no 500 miles per litre of oil malarky !

IMHO

Well never used any of these big tuning co's, but i shall add my bit anyway (doing a psl )

Go ring up the companies your interested in having the work done with, ask if you can see their work/workshop and be shown around, that should give you a good insight to how they treat their customers and cars.
Speak with the guys who will be doing the work (or the boss or both), take your own views from that and write down what you think on a pad when your there.
If you like what you see then they will have your money, ensure to get a quote for the work off them though for the parts, labour may vary due to any difficulties that may arise in removing parts (siezed bolts etc).

Pennine Subaru, never had a single issue with Chy and that includes 2 2.5 builds and a 2 litre build. Currently building another big power 2.5 for me, followed by a basic 2.5 350bhp build for a friend and finally a 500+ 2.3 build for the sti 3.

I also understand John Stevenson who runs at Time Attack is a Chy Build. Others include Fai17, sparkyN, Stevebt, Damien (time attack car) and STiFreak who is currently undertaking his with Chy.

Better stock up on oil then, all I've heard are silly consumption figures on 2.5's....

For me 1 litre of oil for every 1000miles on a 2.5 is perfectly acceptable, so no complaints from me.
