Just seen Pete on TV

Grrrr.
Well done pete, for trying to divert the attention away from all the drooling over the car. Nicely handled.
However the whole peice seemed to be saying "The scoob is great, the police won't do anything so come and nick me".

Anyone else think the same?

Try http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/realmedia/news/tvnews.ram. There's also a report on BBC2 Ceefax pg 163.
Ordinarily I'd be happy to see the Impreza being raved about on prime time television. Under the circumstances, though, I thought this was a pretty poor piece of journalism - Pete seemed to be the only one interested in focusing attention on the crime rather than the car. Pete: you're a credit to us all. BBC: this was supposed to be a news report about an armed robbery, not an episode of Top Gear.
Andy.

The old famous Robert Burns eh ... yup, I heard that.
I'm so glad that I never became a journalist
The BBC used to be an example for countries all over the world... guess that changed a bit.
Good try though Pete

don't these TV presenters talk bollox.
Good stuff you got in there with the comment that people are fed up with nothing being done to stop this crap happening. The woman was avoiding the issue completely.

Have to admit, I cringed a bit with all the supelatives. There seemed an over emphasis on the desirability of the car. I can`t help thinking this might just encourage a few brainless scum to give it a try! Why didn`t they show an M3 instead. (With apologies to the BM lads!)

Not actually seen it myself
The BBC's angle was why Imprezas? Jason and I tried to get the point across that its Imprezas this time, but it will be Mercs or BMWs next time.
We all know how we feel about this, but its a fine line between winning the sympathy of the man in the street and coming across as rich kids with fast cars, who have set themselves up for it.
I hope I achieved the former.

I think Pete was talking about the perception of the car.
I was talking to someone drive a Golf GTi and accused us of all being boy racers that earn to much.
Look at Driven when they asked people who they thought would drive the car: Single male, sleeps around.
What about the women drivers?
Perception is a funny thing and the public perception of our cars and us as drivers are different the general reality.

Hmmmm.... yes, well done Pete for trying to divert attention away from Scoobs to the crime in question.... And a very good point, if we all got undesirable cars, thieves would divert their attention to any other desirable property we have....

hmmm, just watched the video.
Nice try Pete, don't know how much good its going to do
Not too pleased with the way the story was presented at all.
Did someone mention to the reporter that the current world champion is actual Richard Burns, not Robert Burns ?
Andrew.

Very poor article, IMHO. Much concentrating on how fast and desirable a Scoob is, little on the actual crime (except for Pete's bit). Particularly crap bits:
"It's been described as a racing car with number plates". Er, no, it's a very good road car -- racing car with number plates is more Caterham/Radical type stuff. "Robert Burns won the world rally championship in this". Far too much time spent glamourizing the car and far too little concentrating on the scum who nick them. Good point about insurance going up (I hope not).
Also I was surprised to see 'Pete Croney -- Subaru Impreza Owner' as the caption. I was expecting 'SIDC Chairman' or at least 'Owner of Subaru Garage' or something.
"Rich kids with fast cars", eh Pete? Mine cost me the same as a Mondeo (16.5k brand new -- import of course).
