My car will be parked up for a few days should be kept an eye on but you never know. It is fully alarmed and everything but wondered if there was anything else I could do to stop people driving off with it.

Boothphi, had you a tracker?
If so has your car been recovered?

Unfortunately not, got stolen before I had a chance to get one. The police say trackers have a very good recovery rate, I will have one if my car is returned, or if I get another one.

When i brought my car it had a removable steering wheel fitted. It only takes 5 Seconds to take off. It still has to be a good deterant. Im sure a thief would rather go for a car which has a steering wheel, being easier to take, i try and make it as hard as possible for the ba$tards

put ur front wheels on full lock pref towards the curb + put on a good steering lock so if they tried to drag it they would have to break the steering lock inside the steering column and the visible lock on the wheel to move it!

Depending on the model/alarm - can you "superlock" it (i.e. even using the keys or remote will trigger the alarm)?

What about removing the HT lead from the coil to the distributor?
Or even better the rotor arm itself
That would confuse the barstudz!

Used to do this to my Golf GTI when I went on holiday.

Question

Also, what are the implications of removing a steering wheel containing an airbag?

Would that work?

Is it that straight forward - just removing a fuse?

Are there other fuses that would achieve a similar result? Ignition etc?

Hi

A friend with a cossie does the steering wheel removal thing, though a few years back he heard of another cossie that did the same and someone still nicked it using a spare steering wheel! He still removes the steering wheel, though also has a padlock through a hole in the steering column nowadays!

I used to remove the ht leads on other cars when leaving them.

Never tried it on the scooby, cannot bear to leave it..

Don't forget the strategically placed knitting needle through the seat so anyone sitting down feels a big *****!

If you look the fusebox and remove anything you don't need for the alarm, like lights, etc... at least if they get away wit hthe car make it hard for them.

Instead of removing your steering wheel and HT leads, why not just connect them to each other. You'll come back off your hols and fins some ******'s ashes on your seat

Hang on a second...does this mean that an immobilised car can be stolen (without the keys)?

Oh no.

PS - I'd say remove the brake pads as well.

If its parked in your drive or somewhere where it can be blocked in, hire a skip, have it put in front and before you know it, it'll be full of washing machines, old beds and various other ****e and the would be crims wont be able to shift it without a crane.

The Sigma alarm has (Only just read the manual again for the first time in years YAWN) an anti jack device, you can disable the key fobs with the code mapper and they won't reactivate until you put in the correct code again (Although as I found to my stupidity if you've de-locked your doors then set this bit up climbing in through the boot is a touch silly a you can't undo the central locking !!!

Remove the ECU (under the passenger foot-well carpet) and take it with you.

I wouldn't recommend doing this too many times as you effectively reset the ECU by removing it.

Rotor removal won't work since you don't have one.

Take your ECU out. They could easily carry every other piece of kit (battery, etc..) but the chances of expecting to require an ECU are remote. Quick and simple.

Worth fitting an additional connector to your ECU in a hidden location so you can snap it off (the wiring loom)at night when it is parked up.
