Tesco fuel is sold as "supermarket grade" and alot of it is produced in the Petroplus Coryton Refinery, usually sold by Greenergy and normally delivered by TDG Chemicals. it doesn't have any additives like V-Power for example but it is a biofuel it is considered an inferor quality fuel but I don't think it is.
Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate, Esso SUL are all pretty much the same but with different anti friction/cleaning additives.
you wouldn't really notice any short term effects regarding these, you would definately notice in the long term though.
One of our customers is Rousch Tech in Brentwood, they conduct experiments using different petrol grades and you'd be quite surprised with some results.

Normal V-Power doesnt contain 5% Bio, V-Power Racing did but doesnt exist anymore.
Having said that all petrol will contain 5% bio by November so perhaps Shell have started refining it now.

E85 is a fanatstic fuel, Futura are currently the market leaders in the research on this. When it becomes readily available it will also be cheaper to buy.
Shell are probably pleading ignorant mate, They part own a massive and blending plant and started blending E85 this year, although they arn't selling it yet.
Greenergy are blending it too but I'm not sure when that will be available either.
Esso are p**sing about as usuall and will probably produce it about 5 years after everyone else

Sorry mate I was going off on a tangent.
Your car will be fine on both. If your driving hard all the time i.e. racing, then V-Power is the one to use because of the anti friction additives.

there is very little difference between tesco 99 and V-power other than the additives.
I had my P1 mapped on Tesco99 and the advance multiplier was running at 16 (prior to the map, this is the best it can be) so it shows the car was happy, I would then run Shell for a few tanks just to get the additives in there and give it a little clean up etc.
All said and done, if the car was mapped for one fuel, you can happily use the other one with no ill effects (provided you use the same Octane boost etc that the car was mapped on)
Are you sure??? BP Ultimate is only 97RON as is Esso I think ?

Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate, Esso SUL are all pretty much the same but with different anti friction/cleaning additives.

Did a bit of my own research at work today (well it is Friday)
Esso have two types of Super Unleaded, Esso Supreme (97Ron), Esso Energy Supreme (5% Ethanol, 99 Ron) Esso Supreme is being phased out.
BP Ultimate states 97 Ron at the pumps because that is the minimum spec for a "Super" fuel, in most cases it is produced at 99 Ron, but in some it isn't hence why they never state 99 Ron. (That is also why I spotted them lifting Esso SUL tut tut)
BP also have Ultimate 102 Ron.
Shell and Greenergy/Futura have far higher costs than BP and Esso in making sure that the Ron rating of their SUL never drops below 99 Ron, hence always advertising it as 99 Ron.
From A Technical point of view they are pretty much the same except Tesco the money they spend in maintaining 99 Ron is saved by not putting the same additives in.

Just been to the Greenergy site: Greenergy International Ltd - Tesco 99 Octane
It says in the section "what will it do for my engine?" that it contains additives which remove engine deposits and help keep your engine cleaner.
But in the section "Whats in the fuel?" it does not mention any specific additives.
Anyone know whether it has additives or not?
I have always ran V-power due to the octane AND the additives for long term benefits, if Tesco 99 has these or similar additives I may switch for the cost saving.

Tesco 99 and shell will not make that much difference but what I have observed is with Tesco's I never get knock (well to the sensitivity I have set it to) and on vPower I can if I really belt it. vPOwer lets the car run noticeable smoother even say at idle. But a big bonus is Tesco is cheaper so all in all Tesco is probably better mainly cause of the price.... BP Ultimate on the other hand (in my opinion is not good) lower mpg, knock, etc and even most fuel tests bare this out.....

BP ultimate gives knock levels way higher than Tesco 99 or V-power in my experience (based on pfc commander readings of the 3) tesco's and shell both give similar (I'd say the same) knock levels, BP's levels mean I've tried it just once!
