Ported headers and uppipe would increase the torque nicely

Also consider some suspension mods, okay it stop, and it goes, but how well does it go round corners. Given the age of the car, you'll be amazed how much difference some ARBs and a fresh set of shocks will make. Also maybe some poly bushes.

Yes to the ported headers, but don't be tempted by the tubular ones until you go beyond 400bhp.

Also consider an upgrade TMIC to get your charge temps down A newage WRX is a good mod for classics, will also help combat some of the increased temps as a result if the induction kit.

I found g-max on my bug when I changed them, and they had coil spring assisters fitted at the rear to stop things rubbing

My whitelines touch on max compression but not at the time, but they have been dropped 50mm. You don't need your receipt, from what I recall it is up to the retailer to prove you didn't by the goods from the there.

Check here, or ask the question, for more info

PM Harvey on here for a price, I think he'll do yours for you rather than you buying a ready-ported set. I need to get a STI up-pipe as mine has a pre-CAT that I need to get rid of

Can't get the link to work, but if they're tubular and less than about £400 then go for the porting route. You'll see better gains pound for pound, and the cheaper tubular headers have a habit of cracking on the welds

Not sure what the classics are good for, newage WRX is good for about 350bhp, newage STI for about 450 and I've just fitted a power XS rated to 500bhp???

A good FMIC will see you up to 600BHP. Again, Harvey is the expert for intercoolers

Not sure on price for the porting, I haven't looked into it properly yet, but PM Harvey he's on here on a regular basis, of find one of his posts, his email address is on it.

My best guess would be yes, but I couldn't be 100% sure. I'm a newage man so I don't know as much about the nuances of the classics

P1 tmic is basically a STI 5 intercooler as the P1 is basically a UK STI 5.

It is quite a bit of hassle getting them to fit early cars.

Heat wrapping various parts will help keep under bonnet temps done ,once again speak to Harvey about it.

It might give you a couple of BHP, but it will reduce the charge temps so you'll running less risk of det with your other mods. The induction kit will induce a lot of hot air from the engine bay, unless its a wing mounted one, so you may be losing power. The air will be cooler, and therefore denser, so more oxygen can burn more fuel

Speaking with Woodbutch on here at the weekend, when he remapped his Blob WRX it made 10BHP more with a newage STI TMIC than a car with similar mods still running the WRX TMIC.

Early slanted sti tmic will fit straight on (should be silver).
As for bhp increase i would doubt it would be much but lowering the underbonnet temp ,imo, is more important and will help your standard tmic cope.

my IK has a sheild to seperate it from the engine bay heat and has a cold air feed where the resonator used to sit in the wing.

Yes I run an induction kit and it's not CAIK. I have a heat shield fitted though and with my larger TMIC I saw intake temps of 28 degrees on Sunday with an ambient temp of 25 degrees. When I got stuck in standing traffic the temp was 60 degrees.

You need to make sure you have good cold air feeds, and a heat shield to prevent the hot under bonnet air getting into the intake.

The reason they still sell induction kits is because people will still buy them

Dont bother with a tmic!
Since you have the early phase 1 inlet manifold trying to get different tmic (apart from one from a V1/2 STi) to fit is just not worth it.
If you really must have a different intercooler then get a front mount, but remember, you get what you pay for, so try to buy the best you can afford. As already mentioned above see Harvey about a Hybrid FMIC.

Dont forget that when you fit a different intercooler of any kind you reall need a remap, otherwise you risk damage to you engine due to incorrect fuel/air mixture etc

fmic was really what i thought was about right to do , cos a turbo and bigger injectors are on the list and probably later on its going to have to have some stronger internals.
as mentioned above ported headers and an up-pipe are probably first, is that about right !
