Defi's - Best Place to buy
I'm half thinking of getting some Defi's, but where is the cheapest place to get them?
My car has had Defi's at some point of it's life (have receipts), but they are no longer there unfortunately. My mate looked though, and it seems I've still got the sensors with the plugs, so will this make things cheaper? Or are they minimal cost anyway?
Thanks

Defi come with the senders etc in the box, usually retailing at somewhere near £150 a piece and you need a control unit to make them work at somewhere near £100.
They are woefully over priced considering they aren't actually that accurate.
But, and here's the rub, because they look pretty there are many who will say they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Hi Chris,
the sensor cost almost more than the gauges as extras.... buy some, and sell your sensors (from the box) to someone who has been ripped off by a seller who's done what your car's previous owner did !
HTH
dunx
P.S. What colour as Drew @ PreciousMetal-online had a set...

Best place used to be Nengun.
Apexi, Blitz, HKS, Nismo, Greddy and other JDM Parts direct from Japan - Nengun Performance
When I got my first set in 2007 they cost me £311 delivered to my door. That was for oil press, oil temp & boost along with all senders and link II controller.
Due to the price of the Pound against the Yen they are almost £600 now.

Thanks for the Phil, I will have a look.
Yeah, seem the prices have totally shot up unfortunately!!
As I'm fitting an Apexi AVCR, do you guys think I need a boost gauge, as the AVCR will be more accurate won't it.....

If its a classic, a cheaper alternative are the Autometer Ultralites. They match the dash lights of a later classic very well.
The white faced Defis seem to be either stopped or very hard to come by these days.

Also, are Defi's THAT good compared to something like Stepper ones? Like these for a 3rd of the price? 52mm Smoked Stepper Motor (Peak) Oil Temperature Gauge (°C) [SMP52SMOT270PK] - £47.99 : RSpec.co.uk, Performance products for performance cars

I have the white faced defi-link that match pefectly with the late shape classic dash. These are now discontinued.
I really like the look of them but as per Peanuts, there are more accurate gauges.
In hindsight, I would go for SPA SPA Car Gauges

I bought my Defi's new and the cost almost meant I had to sell a kidney.......I'd try and find some second hand. Try PM'ing Ninnybobs on here..he had a set for sale a few weeks ago

I wonder how accurate these gauges really need to be? They are realy only going to give you a reasonable idea of whats going on under the bonnet and chances are by the time the gauge does tell you somethings afoot the damage is likely to have already been done.

Edd,
Thanks mate, pic was taken on my phone (5800 nokia).
I linked up a mechanical gauge to mine as my oil pressure went up max gauge pressure which was over 10 bar while driving at 50mph in 5th gear and when i pulled over at idle. I paniced as i have a rebuilt engine so checked it out as it could have been an oil pump fault. Turns out its a sender fault. I had to take some pics to prove to prosport that there was a fault with the gauge but there not being very helpful at the mo still waiting for a reply
I took photos from cold, on warm up and normal running temps, across the range my prosport was just under a bar out!
Running 2 bar on a fresh built engine is cause for alarm but 3 bar is fine.
Boost gauge on mine is spot on.
