Talking WRX Blobeye Wagon project

Got myself a 05 WRX PPP Wagon last year in Crystal Grey. Very happy with it!! Full leather retrim with red piping and Pioneer AVIC-X1r are the only upgrades to date.

Had a project Clio 172 that had more money spent on GO than I care to mention....very fast and great on track but I have to say that at the end of the day it probabaly wasn't worth it..........shock horror (kept up with my Subaru though!!!)

So i'd like to spend a little money on a few 'subtle' mods to the Subaru. I'd like to get opinions and some pics if possible to see whats been done.

The Plan: 18in Prodrive alloys P-ff7 in Silver
Mesh Grill set on the WR1
Winglets ?
Carbon Splitter?
BOV/VTA DV? I would like one for a while anyway!
STi Scoop
What about Saloon front wings ?

what are the best air filters for increased induction and noise?

Whats out there along those lines?

Cheers

I have a 03 WRX PPP Stealth Wagon. I changed the PPP after 3 years & went for a sports cat & remap. <<< For the full spec click on My Garage.

The Plan: 18in Prodrive alloys P-ff7 in Silver (PFF7s over 335mm brakes & lowered suspension)

Mesh Grill set on the WR1 (Grills home made & detangoed headlights)

Winglets ?
Carbon Splitter? (Tru V-Lip Spoiler See above ^^^)

BOV/VTA DV? I would like one for a while anyway! (Won't help performance & you won't hear it if you get one of these. Which you will once you hear other peoples)

STi Scoop (STi carbon fibre scoop.)

(STi Top Mount Intercooler)

What about Saloon front wings ? (Pass. I left mine as is & spent on handling & brakes)

what are the best air filters for increased induction and noise? (For induction up to 300 odd brake the Green cotton panel filter is widely used)

Whats out there along those lines? (You might consider light weight alloy engine pulleys for better throttle response. Easy bolt on mod.)

Cheers

Hmm that's some project. Very nice. I like the idea of the bolt in engine all done & dusted bar a few tweaks. I don't give much hope for the 5 speed gearbox lasting very long but at least a 6 is on Ian's shopping list.

I also have an 03 blob stealth wagon.

Silver OZ WRC-1 or gunmetal PFF7 depending on mood / weather - check

WR1 grill - check

STI winglets - check

Carbon splitter - check (almost, its plastic)

STI scoop - check, but then took it off again when I got a front mount and it wasn't stealthy

STI wings - no as the rears would be narrower than the fronts and the wheels would look silly as the track is narrower on wagons

BOV - no, gone for blanked off DV so get the minced squirrels sound instead

Then go mad with 2.5l lump, wild cams, 18g turbo, 356mm brakes, Ohlins suspension etc etc.

But on the outside it still looks like a boggo WRX wagon which is how I like it....

pull and roll the rear arches, plenty of wagons in the stats run salon front wings and they look very OEM when done well

18g is a great turbo, what cams do you run?

My fingers are crossed for the 5 speed as well

Won't be running much more power & torque as i do at the moment as i'll be using the same turbo for now which will give me time to find a 6 speed and then a BIGGER turbo

Tempted but I will wring a few more miles, hopefully, out of the Stealth Wagon before a transplant.

Then the world is my oyster as they say.

I have been watching these with interest to see what sort of feedback there is on them.

Enginetuner 2.1+ stroker engines

Wow even though the video clip wasn't the best it still gives you an idea of that 2.1's potential. It just reved & reved & a 10.4 @ 139 with a poor 60ft is not to be sniffed at.

The full system regards noise level is OE headers. Then Haywood & Scott are my local exhaust supplier of choice being only 30 miles down the road.

Hayward & Scott 100 cell high flow down pipe (only 2 BHP loss over decat pipe & MOT friendly)

H&S Up pipe

H&S Centre pipe straight through

Plus the short centre section I already had from the PPP exhaust.

I looked into the H&S backbox as well as Ninja, TSL GroupN & Cobra but went for the Blitz NUR Spec S & have no regrets. You can get a bung for it for those "hungover" days we all have now & then.

A lot of systems are loud yes but, & this is only my opinion, most are what I would call "gobby" loud. Rather than deep bass goes right through you & makes your bones vibrate loud.

Then listen to the deeper note of the Blitz Nur Spec R & tell me the hairs on the back of your neck didn't twitch just a little bit.

I am totally biased though as I have a Blitz on my "not so" Stealthy Wagon.

If you go for a major exhaust change you will need a re-map but you won't for just a change of backbox.

I had a Tek3 re-map with Pat Herborn to get everything flowing nicely.

290bhp up from 252bhp

275lbft up from 263lbft

Boost 1.3bar up from 1.2bar.

I am a happy bunny

Any way enough of mine. How's your project coming along?

Great info yet again form you...cheers. Well I've been held up by Subaru changing by Tyres and all but destroying the rims of my Alloys! Got a cal yesterday telling me that the paint is now in the garage so I need to get up there soon.

I think my priorities lie in getting the front end sorted. PRO Drive grills, winglets and STi splitter. Getting the whole system done is going to cost 500 notes so it will have to wait to the end of the summer.

Both systems sound good but the Blitz certainly magnifies the burble. I like the idea of the bung as well....whats that all about? Does it not kill the flow? Is you system under the 100db limit that most tracks ask?

Woah that's bad on Subaru's part to wreck your alloys.

The bung is a snug fit & bolts into the back box & stops the megaphone effect of the 4.5" tail pipe. It restricts the flow to an extent but no more so than a smaller diameter back box. The centre of the bung is about the same diameter pipe as the centre section. With the bung in it's about 94db but over 100db without.
