ColinMcRae Rally 2.0, damn hard in intermediate?
#1
Hiya all!
I'm a very happy customer with the latest CMR 2.0. I couldn't wait for the USA version of it so I got the same one you lucky Brits have. Anyhow, my main question is...
In championship Rally, novice seemed to be pretty easy. In intermediate, geesh!!! I try like heck to try to get podium place after Australia. Of course you cannot make it to the Expert level unless you have made 1st place in Intermediate. I consider myself to be a veteran in the Rally game arena and always enjoy a good challenge, but Damn! this is pretty hard.
Anybody notice the same thing? Would using a real PC steering wheel make a huge difference? Any cheat codes availabe (I currently just have Fireball and mirror tracks)
Help !

Davis,
CM2 is the dogs doo dahs. If you think intermediate is bad wait for expert. Using a full force feedback wheel on the PC really makes a massive difference, it means that you can feather the throttle and balance the car between steering and throttle much easier.....I know I know its only a game.
There are a couple of cheats for you to try. Putting in onecarefulowner as the driver name releases all cars other than the MK1 escort (can't remember the cheat for that one) also I have just had a mental block on the other cheat to release all tracks.
Oh sod it, here's a link to the PSX cheats, I think they work on the PC as well

Stick with it you will be suprised how much quicker you get. I'm winning events in expert now and each time I do an event I'm 5 seconds or so quicker per stage than since the last time I did it, and I ain't no Colin McRae! Must admit on PSX I found it MUCH harder than on my PC with a wheel.
Happy rallying!!

Personally I find it easier with the keyboard, except for Italy, where you really need to be able to excersise more control on the throtle and steering.
Unfortunately Italy is a bit of a thorn in my side as it's the only one I can't win in Expert mode. So far only 3rd.
You'd never guess I'm self-employed would you?

You're not kidding it's a bit tough in the Intermediate mode.
I've been stuck in Sweden for the last 3 months or so,and it's really driving me MAD!
You just about crack one stage and then completely f*** up another!
Highest place I've managed is 4th overall.
I can't get to grips with the 'wheel at all, I find it much easier with the dual shock controller.Even the tarmac stages.

Certainly a wheel makes it more realistic but not sure if it's easier, I've got mine set up with the gearchange on the paddles and the handbrake on the lever, (Saitek R4), like you have been finding it difficult and am stuck on Kenya at the mo, car set-up is critical

I bought a wheel & pedals for my psx , tried it a couple of times , didn't like it and put it in the cupboard . Bought a dual shock controller and thought it was brilliant . My nephew then got a wheel , pedal , seat combo with a handbrake . It is fantastic - just like one of those arcade games . My stage times were coming down every time . I'm now looking out for an old bucket seat to mount my pedals and wheel to .

It's really easy guys!
It's ALL in car setup and driving it smooth. Slow in, fast out, be smooth, and try to stay away from going sideways everywhere.
For slippery surfaces, set the car very soft, never increase steering response more than a click or two, set brake bias a click towards the rear, that'll help you a bit getting the front end to bite going into corners.
Stay cool, it doesn't matter if you're a couple of seconds off pace at the start, usually it's no problem to make up for that time later on.

I just had to get one of the cheat codes...I really like the Peugeot 206 turbo Grp.B car. Very fast and nearly uncontrollable. It does help beating the competition with this car. Now maybe I'll finally get past intermediate level.
Thanks guys, and Rally On!
