engine management light
was driving home last night and my engine managment light came on... car seemed to be miss firing and knocking. nursed it home and called scoob asst who sent out a recovery truck to take it away this morning... the driver said he knew a bit about scoobs had a look and the large knocking noise was one of the ignition coils hanging out! obviously hadnt been tightend up at the last service. car is running perfectly now. BUT the light has stayed on.. im scared to drive it with it on and is there a way to reset it. i left the battery off for a few hours but still there. do they go into "safety mode"? or do u think its another fault...
im new to subaru and a bit panicky at the moment

have a read here.
Not sure if you can do it on yours, but classics can
Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes
then have a look here

As mentioned above though. Not sure if you can do it, but worth a look

Needs re-setting with a eobd reader. But may go out after 10starts. Providing its running ok its fine to drive with the light on. A coil hanging out will probably show a missfire fault and maybe others.

It doesnt make it any version
Versions only apply to classic shaped JDM STI's built in the following years:-
1996 V2
1997 V3
1998 V4
1999 V5
2000 V6
The original 1994 STI didnt have a version, though some people call it a version 1.
After 2000 when the new cars came in, they were just referred to as Model Years (MY) or the nick name(s) they were given (bug eye, blob eye, hawk eye)
Glad you didnt have any major issues with your car though
