Unhappy Will rolling arches damage the paintwork?

After a nightmare few weeks getting my car back on the road and being told that my rear springs or my shocks had now gone, it has transpired that my new wheels make my tyres catch on the rear arches and that the suspension is fine

The offset is the same as my other wheels and the tyres are the same but my car now rides the rear tyres

I am as confused as a confused thing. Why would this happen? I went back to the place i got the wheels and was told that they are the right size and in fact can be bigger for a scoob. I didn't have this problem before so now i am having to spend more cash on rolling the arches.

Will this damage the paintwork? There is no filler and the paint is sound

Loving my new wheels but hating the disappearing rubber

If done right no, personally I would look at tyre changes or lowering the profile as any body mods cannot be reversed.

Ad long as the warm the paint up before you should be ok, the heat helps stop it cracking i believe

Offset isn't the only measurement, a 44mm offset is the same on a 7" rim and an 8" rim, but guess which one will catch the arches ?

Yup ! The 8" rim is physically wider, so pushes the tyre shoulder further out.

the wheels i have now are ET 40. The bloke in the wheel place tried to explain the finer details of the measurement but he lost me

I don't think its is right to suggest a replacement wheel that will ultimately not fit the car without having to mess with the body work. I was basically told tough ****

I have the arch bloke coming out tomorrow so i will make sure he warms the old girl up before he bends her

I'd be REALY f*cked off with whoever supplied wheels that dont fit. Surely they owe you a refund?

Im sure standard classic offset is ET48 in which case the wheels that you have at ET40 will definitely rub. Whoever supplied the wheels has done alot of talking but in actual fact told you nothing of use as they are wrong. Do not get the arches rolled, get the wheels swapped for ones that fit correctly in the first place.

For reference i have a set of rays 17 x 7.5 ET44 wheels with 215 / 40 tyres on my type r and the tyres just rub on the arches when the suspension is compressed.

I would ask the about the morals and standards of this tyre and wheel place advising you to get something that is wrong and then telling you to go away. Surely the mention of trading standards would make them see sense???

The offset is wrong for a classic Impreza. Consider that the car originally fitted 6J rims and maybe 15" wheels. They did well enough shoehorning 17s and 18s in there. And never offered an 8J rim for the classic.

As a guide, for the P1 wheels...
P1-WRC 17x7J - offset 52mm with a 205/45x17 tyre. (or 215/40...)
P1-WRC 18x7.5 - offset 53mm with a 225/35x18 tyre (or 215/35...)

Offset 40 is too little, especially if the rim and tyre are wide. Absolute minimum I'd go for would be 45mm on a 7J rim and even then I'd want to see it on the car before entering my PIN!

Right, been on the phone this morning to the wheel shop and they have now agreed that the wheel off set is wrong for my car. I can either get them sent off to be machined to fit my car or i can choose another set. Apparently the makers have put the wrong info on these wheels....

I checked the garage on an repair job i had after a bus hit me and it turns out that one arch has filler in it so getting the arches rolled would have been a disaster.

Now i need to find a white set of 5 spoke alloys

Thanks you lot for your help

Dont get them machined, get a completely new set.

If im honest and if it were my money i would go to another place altogether after collecting a full refund from the first place.

DO NOT settle for a set of wheels that are wrong and then have to be 'machined' to fit correctly, if nothing else, when you come to sell them they will be more difficult to shift
