Default How long will you keep your Impreza?

I bought my first MY99 wagon in 2003 on an 'S' plate and kept it for four years until (unfortunately) it got nicked and disappeared without trace. I went straight out and bought my current MY99 wagon and I've had it for two years now. It's still only on 80k ish mileage, lovely condition and with the mileage being reduced to under 5k a year I can envisage keeping the car for the foreseeable future. I still love the sound, the drive and the look of the thing and even though it's getting older, it still ticks all my boxes. A mechanic came round to buy my (shagged) Fiesta van the other day and admired the Impreza - his actual words were "Christ, that's nice - my mate's got one of these and compared to yours it's a scrapper".

So I'm keeping mine - how about you?

In it for keeps, like you Bubba. My MY99 has 48k on the clock; I've had it for nearly 5 years now - they really are great cars!

Ah, but are we eventually going to turn into a version of those Morris Marina saddos, whose fate is to suffer futile, impotent rage when Jeremy Clarkson burns one out "for the laugh" on Top Gear?

Ive had my current 93 Type RA 12mths 80k on the clock now and still pulls well i dont think it would be worth selling in the current market because if i let it go for 2.5-3k what could i buy as quick as the RA in that price range ...........i think this ones going to be a keeper and hopefully in time the value will go back up

Bought mine new in Sept 03 and still got it, so nearly 6 years!
Concidering how much fun it is, and that the trade-in would be £7k tops I can't see any reason to part with it.
Practical family motoring at its best!

1st: MY00 UK, 4 1/2 years then got bored, so:
2nd: MY05 STI (JDM), 18 months, never really got on with it. Changed it for a BMW 330D which lasted 18 months before...
3rd: STI v2 555, absolutely brilliant, kept this one 18 months too, then:
4th: P1, had it about 3 weeks now - not sure how long this one will last...

I had my first WRX for 3 1/2 years, had to sell it when the kids came along. When I get my STi (around June-ish), it's for keeps. Some of my friends say 'Oh, in a year or so you'll want a Merc or BMW' but they just don't get it, do they?

P1 on 30k miles, been in the family from new so is defo for keeps.
22B on 45k miles, imported and would only sell if it were worth silly money in the future.

I really fancy a 997 Turbo/Gallardo or something in that kind of field but would never sell up the Impreza's to fund the purchase! Way too much fun and as the years go by getting more and more unique

I've had for 3 years now and no plans to sell while I'm still enjoying it. I had my last car for 8 years, but never say never, I don't know what's around the corner

Had the Type R for over 5 years now, done about 16k miles in it and will probably keep it until they stop making petrol. Then have it converted to nuclear/electric/steam/wind/solar/water/fart power. So, no plans to get rid of at the moment!

That's the trouble with all the good ones, nobody ever wants to sell them, so if you want to buy there's a lot of rotten cars to look through!

I fear I'm already there! In fact, I think I can feel my adenoids (sp?) growing back!

Bought MY00 in 2003 sold in 2007.

Had the pi55 ripped out of me when my wife decided to tell anyone who would stand still long enough that I cried when it went. Pined for it every day.

Now have MY00 Type RA and its just fantastic. Fastest car I've ever had, the only colour I wanted, the gorgeous blue seats etc etc. Its quite special to me and won't be going anywhere.

NS04 - as a complete aside, how did the Simtek fitting go?

Will put a thread up soon mate; just want to spend a bit more time with the car first....try and minimise placebo/Halo effects.

First impressions are VERY positive!!

I have had my version 2 555 sti for two years now, it has 50'000 miles on it now. It will be mines forever. As mentioned before with the current climate its worth alot more in bits than it is together but there is no way it will be broken.

Bought mine in May 2002, a 97 R reg UK Turbo with 56k on it. Covered 54k since then and still love it, though the last 2 years have been rather expensive, and have pushed me very close to selling it.

It's a weekend toy now, so do less than 3k per annum, which makes the big bills even more difficult to swallow. Unfortunately I seem to be cursed with loving the noise of it, and as I can't afford a Ferrari F355 to replace it with (even better noise), I might be stuck for a while.

It still makes me grin from ear to ear when I drive it, and while it's nowhere near the force it used to be out there on the roads (most hot hatches and some turbo diesels are faster now), it still has an aura to it, that makes it a bit different.

The chav-owner aspect of it has never bothered me, much like footballers owning Aston Martins wouldn't put me off having one of those.

Maybe in a couple of years, when I've finally grown out of it, I'll chop in both the Fabia vRS and the Scooby and get something more sensible. Probably either a 330D Tourer or Octavia vRS estate.

Or maybe a WR1...

Its a keeper Dont know what I would replace it with really, that kind of performance would cost a lot more £££'s with any other car
