It'll be 30-40hrs labour + parts, as I understand it the engine has to come out and all stripped down.

I've never had it done but I've been looking into replacing the standard piston's and rods with forged and my information is that its a good 10hours out and then it's all to put back in.

whoever said 10 hrs to take a engine out is milking it in my opinion, even 1ohrs including stripping the engine is milking it.

So on that basis, forged internals-pistons , rods = parts £900, say new crank = £600, labour 10hrs x£50= £500 thats total £2000. The engine's got to go back in so say 5hrs x £50=£250 Grand total £2250. You would add some work for the heads, valves etc say £300- youv'e got a forged engine for 2.5k. I dont think so buddy

i wasn't questioning parts prices! but i would like any engine builder to come on here and quote 30-40 hrs labour for a build plus parts, that also thinks its going to take 5hrs to put an engine in, i would shop around before you got to the place that qouted on those hours @£50 per hr

I put the parts in to get an overall picture of the completed task. The 5hrs I based upon your 10hrs for removing engine and stripping the block. £50/hr or thereabouts is the going rate for any reputable specialist engine-builder. I know a good mechanic who can do most things for £30/hr but he hasn't that much experience with scoobys.
If you can find someone who does a quality job for less hours x less hourly rate then I wish you well buddy
