Anybody out there using a morpheous geodesy ? Any problems to date ? Just received mine - installed it as per instructions - but just a red light - no blue light for satelite connection ((
It briefly gave me a blue light - then back to the red - and its not detecting the GATSO's - faulty I assume ?????????????????

Question

Gastro,

have you got a heated front windscreen? If so then it could be blocking the GPS signals!

Where have you located the device?

How long did you leave it, GPS systems can take a while to acquire satellites from cold, 15 to 20 minutes is not unheard of ! The best place for this sort of things is on the dash or somewhere with clear sight of the sky, not beneath the dash or anything as the signal gets blocked by electronics !

Question

Gastro.

Mine works just fine if I put in the centre console. You need to leave it plugged in for about 15-20 mins for it to gain the initial lock on. What I did was put in front window so it had a clear view of the sky.

Silly question, but your'e not trying it in the garage are you? It won't work if it's under cover. Give em a ring, they seem to be good on the customer care front. It's worth calling them and getting it setup how you like it. My preferences are 0.6 miles distance warning and 95% of max volume. When I first got mine it was either max warning or none at all. The unit had been left in 'test' mode which setting the values fixed.

No heated windscreen.
I've left it for nigh on 15 minutes near the dash............still no joy. I'll speak to them tomorrow.
Oh S*** - I feel jinxed with technology.
Thanks for the advice anyway.

Question

I am interested but don't want the thing stuck on my dash, has anyone tried fitting it where the ashtray goes ? Or does it always need a clear line of sight for the signal ?

Andy.

Mine fits perfectly in it's little holder in the top centre console storage bin. The clip of the bin holds it in place just fine and it still get's a good signal. Subaru must've designed it especially for it. Take 10 second to remove from it's clip.

I've kept it near the ashtray area - just in front of the gearstick - is that not close enough to daylight ???????? I'll put it on the dash tommorrow and see - and leave it 15-20 mins (again).

Just one final thing. On initial install - do I have to wait with the unit/car stationary to be located by the satelite (ie the inital 15 minute wait thing) - or just drive about happily till it locks on ???

In the bin on the dash, can't drive around with the lid up can you. Did you take the lid off or what. Any Pics ?

My Radar detector sits stuck to windscreen directly above the centre bin I assume this mat cause a problem also.

Best to do it when parked. That way it can get a firm lock without having to re-scan all the time

Sure, taken this morning.

As you can see it's VERY discrete

From the drivers seat it's clearly seen

The little clip, above holds it in place when the lids down.

I've had one of these on trial from the manufacturers for a while. it is the 3rd one, the first two they sent me were faulty.

This one works OK and does need line of sight to pick up the GPS grid.

They have some new products to allow more discreet fitting consisting of an external re-radiating aerial. (£75)

There are going to be three variations of the PC Interface.

Desktop PC Interface:
Available February 2001. Design and customise settings and profiles (£99.00).

Navigational Interface:
SAT NAV capabilities available March 2001. State of the art in-car navigation with all the functionality of the PC Interface by connecting to your existing PDA i.e. Palm:

Probably more benefit to people where there are a higher concentration of Gatsos or when travelling unfamiliar roads. We don't have many up here. (Gatso cameras)

I have considered becoming a Geodesy Dealer?

Now here's a slightly different question. Is there any site out there which gives latitude/longitude references for gatsos in the UK?

I have a GPS unit, and a PC in the car, and a Cunning Plan to save 500 quid. (Geodesy + interface...)

Chiark.

Not that I know of. I think morpheus got their data from the various council's who have to publish the camera locations. Since there are about 4000 camera's in the uk it's going to take an age to program them all in.

The most comprehensive camera guide is at the abd website

Thumbs up

The lid of the compartment is thin enough for the GPS signal to get thru to the unit.

Who said Impreza interiors were useless?

chiark - i've been looking for a list that I could use for a while - never found anything but am still looking.....

Neil - how does it work in there!? It needs line of sight to the satellites, or do you have the external aerial?

Satnav with a PDA seems interesting......

Gastro,

I'm thinking about getting one of these.

Does it take 15 mins to "log on" everytime you plug it back in or just the first time you use it ?

ta,

Andy.

No - only the initial install. Therafter about 20-30 seconds. I've got mine hard wired into the electrics and it sits within the dustbin in the top of the dash (lid fully down). I've had it changed so the audible warning beep can be heard through the lid.........It works a treat ! (currently set at 1.2 miles detection)

that was a quick reply - thanks

I think I'll be getting one of these fairly soon

I'm sure I read about a Geodesy II somewhere but I can't find where at the moment.
