Track Day Insurance gone through the Roof!!!!
#1
ive just had my quoted from Edgar Lawson who are extremely helpful and the old quote of £75 for 12K's cover is now £77 for £5K's cover
This is due to lots of people having offs!

What exactly is the score with track day insurance. Will Edgar Lawson provide just track day insurance ? The reason I ask is that we have a fleet policy that covers the 8 cars we have in the company and they wont provide cover for track day use.
Is the £77 payable for each track day event? and what is a reasonable amount of cover to have, eg 25%, 30%, 50% of the cars value ?
Does the insurance cover recovery from the track should you need it.

people like eggar lawson provide cover on the track only, it isnt linked in any way to your road insurance.
It has a max limit on the payout, looking at what Harj has just written it looks like they have been stung badly by recent accidents and want to get their money back.
£5K cover on any scoob, let alone a 22B isnt enough IMHO.
People like Priveledge used to offer free track cover as part of the main policy, now that has been withdrawn, maybe because of an increase of track day usage and therefore more claims?
I have my westfield covered as part of my fully comprehensive road cover, this gives me a set value of 14K, i am limited to 7500 miles/year (amazingly i am nearly at that limit now). It covers me for agreed value on track also. It costs just £330 per year, giving unlimited track day use.
This is one of the reasons i went for a dedicated track day car come summer blast mobile, because it's dirt cheep to insure on track, well, its free.
I think its inevitable that the cost of cover for track was to skyrocket, the number of offs i have seen of late has been stagering.
The question now is who can offer cover for subaru's at an affordable rate? £5K cover isnt anywhere near enough for most people i would have thought.

Oh ****.
Cover for Goodwood on 3rd March now £250 for £13,000 with a £1,000 excess.
Errr, think I will be cancelling said track day if thats the price.
Not Eggar Lawsons fault of course, as someone has said already they have had 2 claims this year, I'm surprised they didn't put it up before.
Looks like the end of my track going days then

I thought you had found a company which insured all of your cars and covered you for the track for 2.5k.
Am I mistaking you for someone else.
Not being flippant, I was thinking of changing my insurance next time round.

Not a lot of use for the rest of you, but Marcus who is organising my Goodwood stint (www.easytrack.co.uk) has just this week (phew !) organised an insurance policy for his track days.
His cover is of course not related to car type etc but is a rate that reflects how often accidents happen at his days (ie doesn't matter how many Impreza's get written of as long as it's not on an easytrack day).
Cover ranges from £37 - £98
Will be £98 for cover of £10K and an excess of £750, that is the max he will insure. Mentioned something about it only covering parts and labour on repairs (???) didn't go into details as I was so happy just to get any sort of insurance.

Some insurance companies are still including limited track day cover in their policies. I had a quote from Greenlight today that included track use as part of the standard policy (also the cheapest so far - £980 all declared mods (like for like replacement) / London postcode / FNC /3 points). Not sure of all the details, but I will post them up when I receive the quote.
Cheers

I have just had a long conversation with Richard Egger (Egger Lawson MD) about this....
SO FAR this year he has allegedly received over £20K in track day claims for Imprezas alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A good proportion of which we will all know about.
It has meant that they and (probably) the whole industry has needed to re-think the prices.
It is a real shame, but prices will be high for the next period of time until a good solution has been reached. He said that they need to find a way to ensure that the people who deserve it (the people who don't go off!) get good prices, and people who don't, don't!
I have suggested the following potential ideas...
- Option to Raise excesses (this always focusses the mind IMHO and people who know they are going to be sensible would be happy to do this)
- No claims bonus. Set initial first time track days at a hgih premium and offer discounts progressively after each track day.
He's going to mull them over and get back to me, but I'll continue talking to him as he's been a huge supporter of motorsport and track days, etc for as long as I can remember.
I'm sure it's all temporary.
Best regards
Simon

Is this anything to do with the MY01 going off?
I saw a thread before this Oulton event that said group cover for Scoob events was going down with the good record we were building.
I guess that's gone out the window now....
Apart from the MY01 I didn't see any other major (or minor) damage to any scoobs. So own up, who's been claiming then?
F
PS I had cover at Oulton mainly to cover damage from other people hitting me, rather than causing it myself.

Yes - they had been going down. I am sure that SIDC as event organisers for scoobs & scoob drivers are generally still seen in a good light. I cannot comment/confirm or deny the MY01 @ Oulton possibility as I don't know. However, what I do know is that there have been a high number of claims so far this year, which means the u/writer has had to revue his position. We [here on the bbs] do not know about all the accidents/offs that may happen on track days that Eggars & their u/writers cover. We don't go to them all.
I respect their decision as at the end of the day they are out to make money - not lose it. It will curtail my own track events too That hurts as I really enjoy them

Good luck Harj, you will need it m8.
When you sign on at any track day, you sign a document that indemnifies the organisors of the event, the track officials AND any other person who is on track including passengers of any posible claim for damages.
You go on track at your own risk and you must cover yourself, in the event of someone crashing into you for what ever reason, you cannot claim against them.
If you dont agree to this then you should not be on track.

The point John Felsted has just made is made clear to you when you take out your track day insurance....."If someone hits you basically tough", it's down to you, there is always a risk when on track be it track day or proper race day......
