Default Can Subaru get away with this ?

My car, which is a 57 plate, 30,000 mile, GB270 is booked into my local Cambridgeshire garage next week to have a rear end knocking noise investigated !

Straight away the service manager mentioned the strut problem which apparently also effects WRX's and not just the STI. It was at this point that he mentioned that Subaru policy is now not to change the defected component as it will only return later in the car's life, but could not offer any other kind of fix at the moment via Subaru.

How can this be right that we now have to drive around in car's which we have all grafted to own with defected items fitted to them ?

Subaru have known about this for a long time but appear to be in no hurry to fix the problem..................

Your thought's please Ladies and gentleman

Nige.

Sounds odd to me, Last I knew there were replacing under warranty, I would call another franchise and see what they say.

why cant they strip them down and fix them properly in house instead of wasting more money on replacements that will do the same a few miles down the line?

Default hi

hi mate,

its news to me if they have changed thier policy.unless it has been brought in this year.
i have changed at least 50 sets under warranty whilst in the dealerships in the past 15 years.
i have sent 2 of my customers (just before xmas )to the dealers to have them done and not had any problems.
i would ring another dealers.

hope you get it sorted.

This might be a stupid question, but seeing as mine has started knocking again and is well out of warranty, does NOT getting them replaced cause any problems/damage (other than the bloody annoying noise!). I'm assuming not as it passed MOT like that?

Has anyone actually looked into why they do this?

As for them saying no that does sound like rubbish.

Spoke with a different dealer this morning, the car will now be having the shockers and top mount's replaced here with no issue's whatsover about warrenty etc.

So maybe its just a dealership thing and how they want to interpretate info they get from Subaru

Only taken 7 years then?

And I don't think for one minute your 'source' has any idea what he's talking about, not a dig at you personally, but we've heard it all before.

My STI is going in to Subaru to have new rear top mounts done and it'll be under warranty so hopefully yours will be done too. I wonder how many have got so frustrated they've put in after market parts at their own cost? Quite bad this has been around for 8 years now. It must be cheaper to swap parts than fix the underlying cause.

Not on here to name and shame dealerships as I dont think it's really down to them. Again I think it's a Subaru/IM Group issue that should have been sorted years ago.

But yes it was the Welch Group, and I have had one or two issue's with them but nothing that can't be sorted.

For future reference, as an inherent problem you should have cover under the sale of goods act. The threat of a claim at the small claims court usually does the trick.
