Returning member - Type R questions
Hi I used to be a member of Scoobynet about 5 years ago when I owned a 2000 UK car, green Kingston
I went on a few meetings and always like the look of the type R, due to the fact you could move the power to the rear of the car making it feel like a rear wheel drive car.
I am thinking about getting another Scooby, but this time the type R
Is this diff movement really as good as I remember?
Are all import cars undersealed? I'm a bit worried about buying a 99 car and it being rusty?
Is the insurance more and I likely to get asked for a tracker.
What sort of price am I looking at for one?
Peter

Hi Peter,
The dccd is pretty good you can notice it depending how its been driven, the further forward you move the wheel the more understeer you get and it doesnt take alot of to get the back end to step out, obviously in a controlled manner
The arent fully undersealed, im going to do mine soon but i have got no rust underneath mine!
My insurance is STUPID but i am 22 and next year when i loose my 3points should drop alot!
I paid 6K for mine but you can get earlier ones for less but later ones can go upto about 8ish.. depends if you want one with abit of work or just want one you can jump in and have nouthing to worry about.
Hope this helps, Chris

What is the difference between the R and RA, I take it the 6 was the latest version.
The red intake says if it is STi or WRX, is one better than the other?
Is there anything to look for? Any week points tale tale signs it's been raged to an inch of it’s life.

Hi guys, newbie here with a R plate jap import TypeR but the 2 door V-Limited RA (yes they do exist) after 10 years of wanting one and now i'm 28 and I'm chuffed with it. Had it since June last year, long story but it kind of fell into my lap and loving every minute of ownership sponsered by Gary at Keith Michaels, thanks bro lol
Mine's confused me somewhat though, like i said it's Jap import, TypeR but a non STi version which comes with a VF22 turbo as standard along with a factory fitted roof vent - not been tinkered with on the whole so still pretty standard as it still has the original unmappable ECU but it does not have dccd!!! no side skirts, has non tinted lightweight windows, small low level spoiler . . . so the TypeR / 2 door RA argument has come up a few times as to whether the car actually exists and I can tell you it does, and not a spot of rust in sight
I would personally recommend a 2 door! Seriously the Best car I have ever had! here she is . . .

Have a look at this post matie, this is what everyone said to me when i was buying my first type r.. i loveeeee mine but its costing me a small fortune.. but its alll good
https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...st-type-r.html
STI is the type-r or ra ie red top, dccd, more power
wrx is some of the earlier type-r's. The main way to tell the differance is the sti type-r's have dccd and the wrx's dont.
Emma ur car looks sweeeet!!

Hi Peter,
I,ve been lucky enough to own both the V6 RA-V-LIMITED and my V3 TYPE-R i,m with now.
Both are AWESOME cars, the RA was just manic, by that i mean totally hard-core, ballistic acceleration, mind you so is the V3 i have now..
Get yourself a genuine 330-350bhp of either and there,s not much that,ll live with you to 120-130mph.
RA Is 4 door, so if you have kids it,s more practical, if you can call what is bassically a rally car for the road practical..
What to look out for you ask, well check the gearboxes, they not super hefty and anyhting usually above 330-350ft/lb they have a tendancy to die, NOT ALL.
Fully history. check for brake wear, panel damage, cold start is always best, you can have a listen then, mine has a little piston slap but clears quite quickly, don,t let piston slap put you off, aslong as it clears. Check clutch, etc.
Have either and you,ve got a great car Peter.

probably best to look for a fresh import and get it undersealed as it wont already be done,
insurance wise a-plan for my type-r is under £600 and didnt require at tracker!
you can a decent v5/6 for about £7000 and nows the best time to buy! you wont be dissapointed with a type-r!

I used to have a 97 ver 3 sti but got rid of it last year.
I'm planning another impreza in the summer, either another ver 3 sti or an sti type R of around the same year.
Can anyone tell me is there much difference performance wise between the 2?
I hear that the type R has better accelaration due to the gearbox ratio?
