Something not quite right with the advert. It says the car has 51k at the top, the:

THE CAR COMES ON AN 'S' PLATE IN BEAUTIFUL MICA BLACK AND WAS IMPORTED ON 09/2003 BY SVA IMPORTS.

I AM THE 3RD OWNER SINCE IMPORTATION AND IN THIS TIME IT HAS ONLY COVERED 51,000 MILES

So, it was imported in 2003 and has had 51k put on it since then? Either it was imported with 0 miles or he meant, it had x mileage when imported and has reached 51k over here?

The brake upgrade appears to be Ksport and the owner appears to have neglected to mention this, just describing uprated grooved discs and pads.

I can't see any mention of a remap (most likely be a new ECU on a 98 as the original couldn't be remapped with Ecutek)- which is important for a modified import STi classic.

3 owners in 5 years is more than I'd like TBF, although this chap's only had it 9 months, why?

All questions I'd be politely asking.

Thanks Ns04

I asked him about the mileage and his said its the totaly mileage the car has done.

I dont think he seems to know to much about the car with regards to the k-sport not that im fussed as i was planning on doing that upgrade anyway

Il ask he about the remap and why his only owned it for 9 moths, he did say its due to him recieving a company car and needs the space.

We agreed on a price before it went on e-bay, just didnt know if i could get the ££ but seems as i can now. It will be removed off ebay if i put a deposit on it.

Anything i should look out for? is it a good buy?

Personally, I would insist on an inspection at a local Subaru specialist, or at the very least from somewhere like the RAC (who would visit the car for you), before committing to a purchase. Might cost you a few bucks, but money well spent when you're paying 6k.

Ns04

PS roofer is right, that's a carbon style STi 6 spolier.

You should also get the car HPi checked in case it has a hidden history.

I could be wrong but I think those pics are of the last time it was on Ebay. I'm sure that was Cardiff too. Either it didn't sell or sold locally. I wasn't sure about it the last time I saw it but I can't put my finger on why.

Its a nice looking car (although I'm not keen on the black). I guess just make sure every panel lines up - check for overspray and check the door hinges - poor spray will peel off. Look at the slam panel where it meets the inner wings - check for poor welds or "pigeon ****" welds. have a good look underneath on both sides to see if everything lines up underneath and nothing looks bent.

Its worth doing all these checks - I've seen an STI RA with a bent B pillar, bent inner wings, white hinges on a sonic blue car - terrible state and still they wanted 7K.

Check smoke, check rattles, check DCCD (on full lock and locked diff it will bounce so don't do it) check it pulls well.

other than that best of luck. Hope the M4 is clear as my mother is supposed to going to Oxford today.

HPI - will only tell you whats happened to it since being in the UK although I guess they are worth using.

Thanks for that eddscott i will write all that down haha and check it all off want to make sure a get a goodun.
So your saying i should test the dccd wth full lock?
Ive heard its abit rough that way at the moment but shud clear up with the rain.

No - with DCCD fully forward or "locked" when you turn tightly - ie full lock on the steering wheel, the car will bounce and fidget because you've locked the centre diff and it can't do its thing.

I did this when testing a type r and thought I'd broken it.

Just go look but work on the basis that your not going to buy it and let the car convince you.

Check the usual things, like wear on the steering wheel, seats, gear gaitor, switches (windscreen wipers) if they are well worn then the mileage could be more that claimed.

Check the import papers for the mileage, does it come with a Jumvea certificate? (jap auction certificate verifying the mileage in KM's.

Id contact SVA imports too as they are a reputable importer and even though the ad says they imported it in 2003, they may still have some info about it.

Get the chassis number from the seller and check it on the 'which is a wrx sti' thread on here

eddscott - thanx for your input, i will be sure to check the dccd.. i know i really like this car but as you say i should keep a open mind and not think about buying it.

nathan - im going to get in touch with sva imports later today and see what they say.. i cant actually find that thread, ive searched it, any chance of a link? Il check all his imprt papers as he said his got all the papers for the vehicle from import.

Its good to know that everyone on here is willing to help and share their knowledge, thankyou.. and keep it coming

Enjoy your type r, i bought one in December as a fun car and it rocks. Check the engine coding on the left strut mount to confirm V4 or V5. My car is a late 1998 with the reworked clocks/dash seats etc but it was a V4. You cant ecutek a V4 but you can a V5, so year doesnt matter its version that does if you plan on adding mods.

The cost difference in mapping is significant between V4 and V5.
Your car looks the biz, good luck and enjoy!

That's definately a V5 and it can be Ecutek'd.

You can tell its a V5 as the coil pack is on the Near side.

Looks a lovely example. A good purchase in my opinion.

Check the service history thoroughly, and check for accident/repair evidence, remember, your life will be in that car.
