Default V2 STI

What would a fair price be for a standard version 2 STI.

The car appears to be in good condition and has 73k on the clock.

I don't want to insult the guy with a too low an offer.

Why can't people ask what price they want!

Ali.

At that price you wouldn't get anything that doesn't have major mechanical problems. Just take a look on Pistonheads - with one or two exceptions, most STIs at that price have something seriously wrong with them.

My STI v2 555 might be up for sale soon (see here) - drop me a PM if you're interested - around £3500.

I agree with Andy ( stunning car mate ). I wouldnt let mines go for anywhere near two grand.

It really depends on the state of the car.

good point but problem is, it can be very hard to spot impending big end failure unless its chaved up, or has an obviuos bleed valve.

I've been watching the price of V2 RA's ...even good ones are struggling to make £3K so i dont think dj219957's valuation is that wide of the mark

The problem with Pistonheads is that it's full of trade ads & with the £ taking a tumble it's pushing up the price of fresh imports

The good thing about Pistonheads is that you can see what cars are actually selling for & as such i can't see the above trader's lasting that long in the current climate, because private sales (where people are having to sell) are massively under what the trader's are asking.

Another good way of keeping tabs is to use Ebay (but these wont be the 'best' cars out there) & use the watch facility ...I've been doing this for the last 12 months or so, Interesting to see what people are actually prepared to pay (rather than what people think their cars are worth)

I own a V2 555 btw

I agree with DazW - traders all seem to be asking a lot more than the private ads, often for cars that don't look any cleaner, at least from the photos. They have to ask that much to avoid making a loss on cars they have paid to import.

I think traders are asking a lot more than private than they did a year ago because of the exchange rate.

I saw a v2 sti that wasn't immaculate but wasn't bad condition go for £1600 through a car auction the other month and I couldn't spot any faults with it, but then again it wasn't warrantied so probably something up with it.

I only got £3250 for a v3 sti with 297bhp in October/November time last year that really was immaculate condition and it took me about 5/6 weeks to sell and 3 weeks in Autotrader. The 1st person to view it bought it.

Look on ebay completed listings for your best bet. Only the completed listings in green are the ones that have met the reserve or been sold.

To be fair, the price a car fetches at auction is the price a trader thinks he can spend so he can re-sell it at a profit within a reasonable time. It's bound to be rock bottom.

With a car like a scooby, you're always going to have a limited audience - the price you can get for one depends on how long you're prepared to wait for a buyer to come along. My first scooby sold within a couple of weeks - the second took six months.
