I've been looking to buy a a 96ish WRX. I've chatted to one owner with a car I'm interested in, but I'm not sure which year it is - his reg doc. has the following:
GC8026583 - I know this refers to date of manufacture - can anyone decipher it pls? Enigine no is: 573884
I've read the FAQs, but the owner wasn't able to give me the model no. when I spoke to him on the phone.
I'm in the market for a 96ish WRX for around 7k - any suggestions? (apart from save up for a newer one!)

I've just spoken to technical dept at Graham Goode...
they have general details of VIN plates on their web site - but no info on how to decode date of manufacture. However, they kindly checked it out for me - apparently it's a WRX 4-door, possibly in White (it's actually silver) and date of manufacture is Oct 94 - so probably a 95 model - which would be confirmed if I had the full VIN plate details!

I can't how the number 026583 relates to Oct 94 - but there you go! Maybe someone somewhere has a readily accessible data base as in the Uk it can be awkward sometimes to establish 'real' info on japanese imports - this car was advertsied as a 99 - which turned out to be imported in 99 - and owner thought it was late 96 - so was in fact TWO YEAR out!

Check out www.iwoc.co.uk and look at their contents page. I think its under a heading of Japanese Cars but they list all Jap models with associated number codes and year of manufacture.
