Did you know that the Police now have access to the insurers database. When they stop you now they can find out immediately if you are properly insured and what type of cover as well as who's insured to drive your car. Not only that but there are plans for the DVLA database to be added to the Police National Computer which in short means they will also have access to your licence details, type, class of vehicle points e.t.c.

Producers to become a thing of the past? I dont know but it is worrying the Police having access to all this information on the spot.

Will they make judgements there and then as to your driving if you have 3 points?

Big Brother...No Surely not!!

And still these kids who steal and joyride peoples cars - will get stopped and banned from driving for 6 months (when they didnt have a licence in the first place) and given 2 months community service.

Whilst the honest taxpaying, fully insured driver whose car they write off will take a hit from his insurance company who cant claim any money back from an uninsured driver.

Forget all this money on speed cameras - dish out proper sentences to these toerags who kill innocent people and increase everyones insurance and we might get somewhere.

When was the last time you saw a judge or magistrate?
I think thats where we need to start.
You get a more severe penalty for speeding these days than robbing an old lady ( as long as you take heroin and are trying really hard to get off it honest)
The courts are ****e. Magistrates haven't got a clue.

B4 Boy,

that is potentially worrying, especially the thing about the number of points you may have.

Currently, the driving licence is folded in a plastic pouch (well my pink one is) so that any endorsements CANNOT be seen. The Policeman is NOT allowed to open up the licence (although he may ask you to do so - don't) as how he handles the situation may be swayed by your driving history. Similar to previous convictions not being disclosed in a court as it may influence the jury.

Also, how would they know that you were who you said you are - as you would not have any ID (well not until the government introduce compulsory ones!).

One good thing would be that they might not both stopping you in the first place, as they could check that the car was legit whilst moving.

Not entirely correct that. For endorsable offences the Policeman will need to know how many points you have before he can decide on the course of action. I.e if issuing an endorsable ticket would send the points over 12 then it cannot be done and you would be reported for court.

There are other powers he/she can use to inspect the whole licence anyway.

Nathan..

BTW the insurance data base on PNC is nowhere near completely operational yet and not all of the insurers have agreed to take part in the sytem. You would still get an HO/RT 1 anyway for Driving licences and MOT (if applicable).

Question

Nathan L,

are you sure?

I thought that an officer (or vehicle examiner) can only ascertain the name and address of the holder of the licence, the date of issue and the authority by which they were issued. You also must (verbally, as it may not be on the licence) state your date of birth.

The officer is NOT the judge or jury.
