Question How do you list PPP on your insurance?

Well after phoning numerous companies it's obvious that none of them understand what the PPP is So how do you list your PPP on your insurance. The closest I could get was "a chip inc. BHP 11-25%". I tried explaining to them that PPP wasn't a chip and was a recalibration of the engine etc etc, but all I got in reply was that all they can put it down as is a chip.

Secondly, the rear windows on the car I've just bought are tinted. The insurance specify between less than 30% tint and more than 30%. How do I know how much it's been tinted when I didn't fit them?

cheers, Toby

When i've got quotes from insurance companys they always asked if its was 265 or 302,so tell them 302.

P.S not sure about the Tints but i thought the rear windows didn't matter.

None of the ones I rang asked what bhp it was, only if it has been modified, which technically it has :-/ Mine's the 2.5litre so is 316bhp. There is one listed at this bhp but that's the RB320. Very annoying you get penalized as having a mod whereas on the RB320 the PPP is standard so not a mod and so don't get penalized. In your case if they've mentioned a 301 bhp sti that will be the WR1 I guess. You have to look carefully at the manufacturing year. What seperates mine from the RB320 is the RB320 only runs from early 2006 to late 2006 whereas the hawk eye runs from 2005-07. That's how they're listed with the insurance companies anyway. Insurance companies are always looking for technicalities to get out of paying and I don't want to take any risk :-/

On my car I've got pretty much what is in the PPP but done by RE motorsport. So for insurance its listed as what it is; exhaust, fuel pump and remap. I presume that the PPP can be insured in the same way?

Try phoning one of the specialist insurers. They generally know about these things. Try Keith Michaels and A-Plan ( I've seen their phone number on this site somewhere...!)

As above, Gary knows how to sort out your insurance with the PPP.

Go to APlan better insurance quote by £150 but that just my personal choice and experience. Gary said it wasn't worth the hassle trying to match 'His words'

If insurance companies are unsure what PPP I was always led to beleive the best way to describe it is that its an official Subaru engine upgrade which increases the BHP, if the isurance companies want to know more you can be specific with a breakdown or direct them to the accessory page on Subaru's website.

Some of the not-so wise insurance companies have it listed as "Prodrive". ie. 03 STi Prodrive.
