Having perused the DVLA site last night, looking for a plate for my girlfriend, we chanced upon a really good Subaru related plate.
It looked like a real bargain to me at £250, and I couldn't believe it was still available!
So, instead of buying one for herself - She bought one for me!!
Now I've got to organise changing details with Insurance Company, Finance Company (via dealership), Tracker, DVLA/Tax, and finally getting some plates made up.
So any serious things to consider, or special order I should go about these? (I'm sure the DVLA will explain it all, but I'd like a first-hand experience story).
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Squizz.

Only thing I had to double check when I bought my one was that it was exactly what I wanted!!
I phoned when first issued the T-reg plates, and the one I wanted was £1300, I couldn't afford and couldn't use it on my MY97 car.
I phoned on a whim 6 months later, it was still there and only £700. I had to change my car soon after to use it!! Turned out to cost more than £700 in the long run!!!
I had the lady on the phone read it out 3 or 4 times, as it was a verbal contract, and recorded, so don't make any errors!!!
To save sending all the paperwork away and waiting for the paperwork to come back, before you can use the plate. I know that my dealer in Basingstoke, took my car and all the paperwork to Reading, so that it was transfered straight away.
Might be worth taking a day or half day off work, but at least it's done then!!!
I think you've got all the bases covered, but DVLA were very friendly and helpful with my queries!!
Hope this helps
Andy

It's all relatively straight forward. When you buy the plate it includes the transfer fee, and you'll get a leaflet telling you what to do in what order.
Don't tell your insurers or tracker, etc, until the plate is actually officially registered on the vehicle. You'll be covered regardless.

Easy peesy lemon sqeezy!!
I saw a lot of Scoobie related ones on DVLA - but I opted for a personal one (my name!!) as it will stay with me for life now.
S600BYS would look daft on a Metro?!
Just remember that the law changes on 1st April 2001 and ALL numberplates must be of the correct font and correct spacing (so forget about all those half price offers about for italic plates and such like - they are just trying to shift stock)
The law change is retrospective too - so watch out!

pslewis - Thanks for that.
There's no worry about shifting spacing, etc. The plate reads well as standard, and I'm sure I'll get pulled just so they check it's a real one - Let alone bu66er about with it.
Besides, my dad's a copper, so I should know better...
Oh - I also don't agree with doctoring plates. (Nomex donned, awaiting fry-up! ).
Cheers,
Squizz.

Remember to tell your insurer when you get the plate that in the event of the vehicle becoming a total loss the plate remains your property (well the good old DVLA actually) and will not form part of the salvage.
There have been numerous cases of this and the plate is lost or only got back after an argument.

Squizz,
I've bought and transferred a few plates over the years.
Best to get the V778 form (or someting like that).
When you send the paperwork send to your local DVLA Vehicle Registration Office NOT Swansea as they take ages.
Richard - PS if you want any help email me.

Er, not according to the DVLA web site, you wont be able to replace plates with the font you used to have but it wont be illegal to continue using an old font, time to stock up on old style plates ...
Check the questions at the bottom of this page, specificaly the last one:

There's some old retired spinster, living in Bournmouth, driving around in her MY98 Honda Civic (reg no S11BARU) not knowing how valuable her reg number could be

The only problem I had with my cherished plate is that it can cost a fair amount of cash if you change your car as often as me! It costs £105 to put the plate on Retention Certificate and £80 if you transfer it from car to car. Oh yeah, try not to mis-space your letters and numbers to make the plate look different than what it is, the local bill don't like that kind of stuff.

OK story goes, wifey kindly bought me a plate as a present about 7 months ago, I have never assigned the number and now have decided to sell it, the V750 expires at the end of Feb, so I decide to apply for an extension in case I don’t sell it before then.
A quick call to the local registration office and they reckon I have to get the person it was bought from to sign the form (it still has his name as the purchaser), anybody else come across this? Also will the new owner still have to get his signature when they come to assign it?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers
Allan

Hi
My mate sent his old MOT certifate away to be changed by mistake, after being stopped for speeding he's now also being threatened with prosecution for having no MOT even though he has got a valid ticket with the cars original plate on it!

Richard,
Gave them a call, the story gets worse !!!
Apparently there is no way I can either extend/transfer/change nominee details without the original owners signature, even if I do extend the V750 I will still need his signature when I assign it or sell it.
The cost of changing nominee details and extending will be £50.
I've now also got the problem that if I send the V750 back to him in the post what guarantee have I got that he will return it, wifey didn't get a receipt.
It might be easier for me to actually assign it to the scoob after all, I'll probably have take a trip to Kent and ask him to sign there and then.
Squizz,
well you did ask.
