just buy a turbo, do you realize the size of job this is going to be? your taking on a major sized project with this, its not just your engine and other parts you need to change your gearbox, clutch, prop and loads of other things will need to be swapped as well AFAIK and i also think you`ll be more for insurance doing it this way too

Hi Connor
I'm no expert by any means but i have read its a big job and could be expensive,do you not reckon you could sell yours and pick up a decent v3 or v4 classic turbo??
regards

yep i have full garage facilities, ramps the lot. I am aware of the insurance costs aswell but it will be worth it in the end as im keeping the car till it dies.
I like the shell i have its solid, the colour is awesome so i dont see the point in having the trouble of selling it when i can convert it
Also thought about a conversion on the sport engine but nobody has the information. I know of a few sport turbos but can never get a hold of the owners

Cheers Dunk - Im on there already im awaiting a few replys
I found this link its ALOT to read but do you think its accurate

Well you need the Turbo manifold w/ the turbo for a 2.0 Impreza Sport, could try giving Summit Racing a call for that one, then youd need the downpipe off that an you could just weld it or flange it into your stock exhaust, id recommend going to an aftermarkets exhaust like 2.5" for a nice deep sound an more smooth powerband throughout the RPM range, not to mention a faster spool up time for the turbo, dont do a 3" exhaust so you dont get mistaked as a honda civic going down the road. highly recommend installing a boost gauge an a Wideband Air/fuel Ratio sensor, and if I were you since its a non turbo motor an doesnt have Eagle/Forged rods, I would put an External waste gate on the manifold with a Boost Pressure Regulater set at 5psi, an make sure the Wastegate spring is less than 5psi (should disclose how much pressure it takes for the spring to move on the box the Wastegate comes in) or else it wont open an youll end up with a rod through the block. From the factory the engine is able to handle 7psi max I wouldnt even try to push it that high until you forge the rods/pistons and a billet crankshaft. Or actually you dont have to go as far as that, say you wanna run around 10-13psi, you have to pull the heads off the motor, you can take them or ship them to a Cometic Gasket company an they can make like 1/4" Head Gasket spacers to Lower the Compression Ratio. As for an intercooler I dont recommend how they have it set up on the WRX or STI, I would do a front mount (behind the front bumper of the car). I dont like they way they have it set up on the WRX or STI as its on top of the motor an it gets pretty hot underneath there even though it has a hood scoop heat will always rise up into the cooler. Then for the turbo you have to take the oil pan off the vehicle, drill a hole an run a tap through it an you need a fitting that will thread into the hole with a long male end that can recieve a hose from the turbo for the turbo oil return line, then you have to locate where the Oil Pressure Sending Unit on the block is an take it out get a T-Fitting that has the male end at the end of the T that threads into the block and make sure the to Top end of the T are Female so you can thread in the Oil Pressure Sending Unit on one side and the Oil Feed Line to the Turbo on the other. As for the cooler lines you can cut both of the main thick hoses in half (be sure you have catch cans cuz its gonna get messy) an they make plastic inserts that each side of the hose goes on with a male end sticking out of it. Now for cooler performance from the turbo you want the top hose that you cut with the insert in it run that line to the turbo inlet coolant side an the Hose lowest on the Radiator run that to the turbo Outlet side, that way the coolant is still cycling through the radiator an is not bypassing it. As for boost tubes I dont know if they make a prebent kit for this car, might have to bend your own an cut them id recommond 2.5" MAX intake piping in the Charge side of the turbo. If it doesnt have a prebent kit be prepared to write down alot of dimensions of where you want to run the pipes an take it to a pipe bending shop an they can bend the pipes to your dimensions you have written. That I know of they dont make kits for this car but I could be wrong, I would deff recommend doing it yourself, it might take a long time but in the long run you will save ALOT of money an itll be totally worth it. An to relate to the guy who said itll have driveablity/reliablilty problems, it would have no driving or running problems at all (unless you put something on wrong), I turbo'd a 2.5rs that was non turbo an still runs just fine ive had it for 2 years turbo now. Its all about how car smart you are in with what your doing an know what your doing. Never broke down once just change the syn. oil every 3k miles, and also im not sure where that guy is shoppin if he thinks it costs 10G's to turbo a 2.0 impreza lol. I did my 2.5rs for $900 (thats about what theyd charge for a totalled/junk impreza in the yard, not including the rest of the parts you still have to buy) and its a 2002. Somethin like this could run from as low as $700 or to have someone else do it could run $4000+ an most of it is all labor. Should help you get a general idea.

Having been quite heavily involved with a couple of 'turbo conversions' on n/a cars I'd deffinately do what I posted. It'll make life a whole lot easier having access to all the bits there.
Doing it by buying bits here and there you'll end up with a very long project that may not run right and you'll spend a fortune.

lol dont admire yet this could be an EPIC FAIL ...............but seriously i think we can pull it off in a weekend of hardcore graft on the farm
At the end of the day if i have 1 running turbo car up next to the sport it should be easier.
The only thing that concerns me is immobilisers etc BUT the other lad thats offered to help is a genius with wiring
I know im inlove with my sport as i lost my Subaru virginity to it

if you like the colour of your car so much it would be cheaper to buy a turbo & get it painted the same colour - WR1 blue if I recall correctly?
I've been down the same route with Renault 5's & it was a mistake - learn from others mistakes Conner

lol Jon i know what you mean but its going to be a challenge an the end result for me personally will be amazing. All be it a standard WRX sti but it will be great knowing that we did the conversion. The car will NOT be getting sold on just run into the ground
Im going to get the scot ads int he morning an look for a damaged car... Thats the easiest route. Hopefully get something this week then get stuck in next weekend
Found a English lad who has done the same conversion so waiting for him to send me his number an will have a chat with him he did it at evenings over the space of 1 week. He said the most annoying part was rebolting everything lol

you need to strip your sport back to literally bare shell.
Do the same to a donor turbo.
there are so many differences its unreal.
the website is .:ImprezaSport.net:.
they are a bit fanboy being honest, and there is anti-turbo snobbery but the two people I suggest you pm are NWS and Huffer, both very knowledgable.
I think theres a chap called celtic dragon who is clued up too.
NWS did the conversion, I think his advice to others was dont bother.
I know you love your car, and you think its the best so you want the shell but there are thousands of turbos in various states for sale that will save you time, money and your own blood.

Peanuts i know there are thousaned of Scoobys that look waaaay better than mine but i want mine turbo'd :-)
If i do epically fail i will of learnt my lesson but im sure it will work its just time. Stripping 2 cars down an then rebuilding one. I will sell the spare car for parts aswell so that will get me a FMIC etc
My mates good with wiring he isnt good at explaining things lol so its harder for me to understard the wiriing side

Good luck! It'll be a huge job, but i imagine you'd get an early smashed sti for cheap for the conversion, then swop your shell onto it!!!
Just out of interest, what would it cost to remove all the doors, bonnet, wings, boot/spoiler, bumpers, side skirts, mirrors, wheels ect off a damaged Sti with only panel damage and have the shell sprayed WR blue, then fit all your bits, saving the hastle of the epic mechanical job. Could be done in a week!

Even you you intend to keep your existing car, youre still going to need a complete WRX/Turbo to be able to do this economically.
