04 sti vs 996 carrera
hi all
just wondering my cousin as a 996 carrera 3.6 rated at 350 bhp.
my sti 04 has green panel filter, full decat exhaust ,remapped to 1.7 barspeed limiter removed.
would it be a close race to a 1/4 mile he thinks no chance
lve love to wipe the smile off his face ...he says his 0-60 ..4.7 secs ...top speed 175 mph. would i have a chance of beating him anyone??

People would look admiringly at the 996 owner, men will want to be him, women will want to get their groove on with him.
You'll still be a kid with a ricer
These threads are retrded because it depends on so many variables and do you honestly think that when you're next in the pub with him, sorry sweet shop that if you explain that the good folks of scoobynet think it will be close that he will agree, apologise and back down?
I doubt it.

why such an dismissive response the OP's question?!?!?! he just wants opinions on the relative power of his car to his cousins, knowing that many people on here might have raced similar cars! he didnt ask about knicker dropping are handling round corners!

Would be so little in it to make it insignificant.
1/4 mile times don't do much for me cos I only buy cars I enjoy driving.
If you guys really want to find out.....line up on a private road and find out... :-D

Is the 996 modded to 350bhp?
They only have 300ish standard and not a whole heap of torque?
If it's standard, I would expect the Impreza to be the faster car for the good old stuff that can be measured (0-60mph and 1/4mile). If it's modded to 350bhp, then it may be a little closer.
Much also depends on driver input.
I would be reaching for the keys to the Impreza personally. 996 just screams midlife crisis. The GT3 and Turbos are seriously good cars though

Couple of issues here to debate. Firstly, I think the 996 Carrera was 316bhp. Porsches are normally very tough to mod for extra bhp as the engines are brilliantly engineered to extract maximum output anyway (weel that's what I read somewhere anyway). Can another 36bhp be extracted and more to the point would this shave another 1/2 second off the 0-60mph time of 5.1 for the standard car
Secondly, the scoob would win easily because from my experience, despite being a beautiful car, most Carrera owners who opt for the version without an 'S' on the back are numpties and wouldn't want to rag the backside off their nice smart car

Im laughing at all of the foolish 'your Subaru will in, Porsches are gay' replies. These go in the face of every stupid, '...I raced a 911, why did it beat my mighty Impreza?...' thread.

As said, cut the OP some slack.
Yes it's a similar question that get's asked a lot but it's obvious he's just curious and asking Impreza owners in the know is obviously the way to go.
For what it's worth, if the power of both cars is that close,it will come down to driver ability.

Now Im really laughing. Despite the fact that a 2.6 litre 911 will pull away from an Impreza, its now all about the drivers and their ability. In a minutesomeone will be foolish enough to suggest that an Impreza 'handles better'... It doesnt, it grips well, but the handling is poor.
I love Imprezas, I learnt all about them and then I imported a big garage full of them, I know exactly what their strangths are; some people are need to manage their expectations...

I don't know the full details of performance with these cars in question BUT if they are that evenly matched ie IF the OP's STi was rated at 0-60 4.7 secs etc?
As for the handling,i'm afraid i have to agree with you - i too think that a STANDARD Subaru handles relatively poorly.Yes the grip is decent but handling is another matter. It is a jumped up saloon after all and not a sports car as such.
