Buy it
They can be expensive to run, keep with a warranty (i dont think the extended one is that expensive ) and you should be ok

How many miles per annum do you do ?

I get 23 mpg average, over 6500 miles, that's fine by me.

Cheers Tony...thought people would say to buy it. Garage said they would put additional subaru warranty on it for a year after orig one expires this nov. Peace of mind I suppose. Never realised driving one could be so addictive. Thought the civ type r used to be good for drivin...not even close to the scoob.....!

Best colour mate

To be honest the only expensive part of running the car is the ridiculous road tax of £400. Servicing is not as bad as you may think and the only other expensive bit is trying to not keep buying upgrades

I also had a civic type r before my 05 plate scooby wrx PPP. The overall sevicing costs for the scooby are actually cheaper than the CTR.

example - minor service 70k -oil, oil filter, check up and top ups
subaru dealer = £150, subaru4you = £120
honda dealer = £250+

I covered 90k miles on the CTR in 3 years and have now covered 70K miles in the scooby, cannot fault it, much better all round drive than the CTR. The CTR was a great car, loved it, but got tired of all the wheel spin and high revs with very short gear ratio's. What I really like about the scooby is the fact it gets its power down and plenty of mid range power.

I have upgraded the WRX PPP further, sports cat, up pipe, fuel pump, mapped by Jolly green monster - power is now just short of 290bhp and a very surprising 320lbs, even Simon was shocked

Anyway back to the real question - I cannot imagine the scooby STI being more expensive than the CTR to run, inclduing fuel costs.

If the STI puts a bigger smile on your face - GO FOR IT! I DID!

Other than its yearly service, the Subaru is very unlikely to go wrong, unlike a BMW or Merc which you'll usually have some of sort of problem with, normally annoying oil leaks or electrical problems. Crystal grey is nice!

I came from a type r aswell You will not notice much difference in fuel economy between the two, but i must admit buying parts for the car is an addiction lol

if you've got the money, why not?

they're not the car to skint yourself buying one as running it you'll soon come unstuck.
but i've never personally found them massively expensive to run, sure you won't get great MPG but what car that's fun is good on fuel?
servicing (and that's main dealer) i've never found outrageous and the newage with longer intervals is even better than my old classic.
parts if you shop around aren't bad either.

have i convinced you yet?

in short, they're far from the financial burden that alot of non-owners make out

*disclaimer* until you start modding
