why is this Type R quicker....
than my WRX?
I'm at about 300bhp (possibly 310) ...Apexi, turbo, injectors, 1.2bar
its a 98 (ver 4?) got a GEMS ecu but nothing else (other than a dump valve) and 1.1bar
feels a lot quicker than mine does
is it just gearing?
..what bhp do you think its (the Type R) running?

All sti have the alloy bonnet and thats the extent of the panel lightening
The weight saving comes from the lack of luxuries on the RA, I seem to recall that the typeR is heavier.
Still, its the 2nd worst car Subaru produced behind the standard UK early classic

typeR, heavier, weaker chassis/shell only the dccd and short ratios save its bacon. Its a poseurs/**** polishers dream
The typeRA however is one of the best and the version3 RA the best of the best.

got to agree on the RA`s though, no luxuries, no safety features, no comforts, no silly gizmos, just ***** to the wall fun!

Type R is heavier? Rly?
So for instance you've got a choice between a V6 STI Type R WRC or a V6 STI RA WRC - the R being 8500 and the RA being 5500, the RA would "technically" be the better car?
I ask because I really would like a Type R but not sure whether I want to pay more to lose 2 doors. Whichever I bought it wouldn't be a daily but the 4 doors is handy with a 7 year old but doesn't stand out as much as a 2 door.
1998 Subaru Impreza Type RA Version 5 Limited on eBay, also, Subaru, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 06-Feb-09 15:59:38 GMT)
I really fancy this ^^^^^

i gave a modded type R with a 18G turbo a serious run for his money round knockhill with my standard RA, he couldent pass me, the extra weight and slightly longer gearing do make a difference as far as i could tell

A type R with just a map can easily get into the 12s 1/4mile.

Don't the V Limited RAs like the one I linked to have a longer 5th?
I driven a V3 Type R that felt no different to my UK turbo and a P1 that felt much faster. I do want one the WRC versions but its hard getting my hands on one to see if I like it.

I'll admit to being a **** polisher as well lol!!
Enjoying every minute of my type R so far...I'm sure the RA is lighter and faster but by most peoples' standards the type R is pretty damn quick...
Right....I'm off for a spot of polishing!!
