Default V5 Type r - anything to look out for

Hi any information on this would be much appreciated. When i looked into P1's i saw that engines were very likely to go bang - is this a problem with JDM Type r's (V5) as they are a similar age.

Anything else?

Why is it that these cars are described as being more raw?

cheers

Very much likely to suffer from the same problems or worse.

Main (?!) weaknesses are the ECU maps and the MAF.

Remap can fix the ECU maps but really, the only way to minimise the risk of the MAF going is regular servicing and maintenance. Take it to a specialist who has the right monitoring equipment. Alternatively, swap to a MAFless ECU. ISTR that SIMTEK is MAFless.

As for raw, they're high revving short geared cars with a "flat 4 rumble". Lots, if not most get decatted and remapped, making for a louder, even quicker revving beast.

I've decatted my type R and a full Blitz Nur Spec....I haven't remapped it, is this likely to cause problems in the future?

Cheers for the help mate..

Will I gain anymore power by doing this? I dont want to start increasing boost or anything. What sort of bhp would I be lookin at with just the Blitz, decat downpipe & a remap to suit?

Sorry for all the questions...I'm in the mood for learning

I'm in Northern Ireland..I hear good reports about place called East Coast customs over here. Only downside is they know how to charge.
That alone would hardly bring me over the 300bhp mark would it?

Depending on what fuel you want to feed it, somewhere in the 300-310 bhp mark. Less if you feed it rats..... 95 octane....
