Default Beeping gear change indicator on new age Sti - what is it and will it fit a classic?

On new age sti s they have a sound indicator as to when to change gear. It kind of beeps at you. (went in a blob eye with it on)

Now Im not normaly into 'gagets' being from the no nosense school

But I really want one on my classic

Does anyone know what the part is that perfoms this function on the blobeye sti?
And secondly will it fit a classic?

Thanks
Steve

It's generally called a shift light, there's a red light that flicks on at whatever revs you choose. On the STi there's also an optional audible bleep that you can select as well as the light.

On the STi it's integrated with the dial, you set it with the left hand "stalk" like the one for resetting the trip meter on the right, so no you couldn't fit the scoobie one to the classic.

But you can buy aftermarket shift lights that just take a signal from the tacho. Google search ACES shiftlight for one example. But all aftermarket ones are lights only as far as I know, not seen one that bleeps too.

Thanks for clearing that up mate
I have seen shift lights in my search - but also seen nothing with a beep.

So my next question is
Does anyone know of an aftermarket shift light that beeps out there?

I've never understood the need for a beep/light to change gear. Mother's 172 has one and my Elise has one and having done 14k miles in it and a few miles in hers i'm yet to pay the slightest bit of notice to them

Helps me keep my eye on the road when i let loose dont have to look at the clocks all the time.can hear when i need to change gear i find it very useful when trying to focus on road ahead. But then again if you drive like miss daisy totaly pointless... id rather have it than not . But thats just me each to there own.I have it set at 6500 so when it gose of i know i got time to change gear bofore the bend or depending on the road stay in that gear without taking my eyes of the road i,d call it a safty feature and very handy..

surely you can buy a beeping box ha ha ha,all you need to do is wire instead of the light so it picks up the signal from the setting on the tacho,so instead of having a light you have a bleep

Ultimatley pointless, but it did add to the atmosphere along with the grind of the mudflaps in the corners.

How do you make them beep? I've got the light on my STI8, but there is no noise?

To make it beep as well as flash - I think it's twist the adjustment **** thing while sitting stationary (as in the thing you move to set the RPM) - move it to set the RPM, then move it again and you should see Yes or No (thus indicating beep on or off)
