Default Shifting from 1st to 2nd when car is cold!!

I'm finding that on a cold morning my STI RA is very difficult to shift from first to 2nd. Sometimes its a real battle to get it into 2nd and i'm worried that I may damage the gearbox by sort of forcing it in a little.

The car is fine after a few minutes of driving its just the first few inital shifts. Is this normal for an RA on cold days or is it something I should be concerned about?

Would shifting between gears a few times before the car is driven help??

What gear oil are you running?

To be honest mate I don't have a clue. I only bought the car a week and a half ago.

I was thinking of changing the gearbox oil, what should I use??

I run millers crx 75w90 in mine and find no problems shifting even in the current freezing temps. There is also redline gear oil, which is quite well regarded.

Cheers mate. Do you reckon this could solve my problems? One of my mates said that this was common on the close ratio boxes but I wasn't sure if he was right.

All other gears are fine and shifting from 1st to 2nd is fine after 5 minutes or so!

Also, am I likely to be doing any damage by having to push it into 2nd quite hard?

Same with my Hawkeye Spec C. In cold temps after 2 to 3 mins its fine. No probs in warm weather. Just stick it in 3rd for a few minutes.

I also had similar problem with my 350z & the opposite with my E36 M3, it wouldnt go into 3rd easliy on a really hot day.

Very common on most cars when ambients are very cold.

Double declutching (sp?) should help..

Cheers for all the advice guys. I'll try double declutching, but may even change the gearbox oil anyway for peace of mind.
