Default New Road Tax Brackets, not going to be £400 for most of us!

There seems to be a lot of confusion on the subject of the new Tax brackets for Impreza owners, people worrying they are gonna want £400 for us to tax our cars, for most of us (< MY06) it won't go up to more than £245. That's if I read this right anyway!

When they introduce the new bands it looks like the impreza will be in band L (226-255 g/km C02) which would be £400! However Imprezas will be in group K (201-225 g/km C02). Now I know the scoob produces more than this but there is an asterix next to this group explaining: "Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006. These cars will stay in band K." Band K states Tax will be £215 in 2009-2010 and £245 in 2010-2011.

All this info on Pre-Budget Report 2008 - Reforms to vehicle tax : Directgov - Motoring

Oh and a little disclaimer, I may have got this completely wrong!

If anyone is unsure just stick your rg in the link below. It will tell you your car tax price.

Nothing but a scam, two highest tax brackets cost the same.highest tax bracket will cover ferrari and the like which runs to not that many cars ,second highest tax bracket catches many family cars, mpv catches hundreds of thousands. these new tax brackets are a joke as lots of cars in the two highest groups are rather fuel efficient so why penalise these vehicles.

because its not worked out on 'MPG' but on CO2g/km, for example you could have a clapped out deisel escort that will do 60+ mpg but it could still be releasing more CO2 than a less economical car

Some good info here:

UK Road Tax Prices | Vehicle Car Tax Rates | Car Tax Calculator | Vehicle Excise Duty - Parker's

My Oct 2004 reg'd STI will be £215 from April this year and £245 from April 2010.

Basically if the car is registrated before 23rd March 2006 you pay the cheaper £215, if its after that date then £405 . Hope this helps.

Wolfie.
