Scoob goes next week I want a temp toy for 1500

My 97 Scoob get sold next week.
I want a temporary car which is fastish, fun and costs less than 1500 quid. This is to drive for a couple of months while I decide what to have next and my house sale completes.
Current thoughts are a Renault five turbo or a Porsche 924 turbo.
Any others?

Yeah,
I too love the 205 Gti but have managed to get somebody to pull out in front of me every time I drive one. The wife therefore won't let me have one again.
Thought about 200sx but the early ones are ugly.

About the 5GT turbo, are they OK running on unleaded?
I thought they were 4 star only, and LRP and turbos don't mix. Just a thought...

I think your choice of car should depend on whether you are prepared to write off the £1500 purchase price. If you buy the 924 turbo, and anything major goes wrong with it, you're probably looking at having it transported down to the breakers yard because it wouldn't be economical to repair. In fact, to be honest I can't see you getting anything other than a nail of a 924 turbo for £1500 anyway.
If you want RWD, how about an old shape toyota corolla - they have the 120bhp 1.6 litre 16 valve from the MR2?
Gary.

If you loved the 205 you'll love the 309 GTI, just as capable, less to insure and I found mine easy to resell.
If you still want that turbo the Daihatsu Charade GTti is a great laugh, as long as you don't go round corners and accept that its one big crumple zone in a crash...

In fact, unless you really need the money for your house, keep the scoob. I ended up buying a temporary car for similar reasons, and the overall cost was probably greater than it would have been to keep the scoob.

Try a MR2 early model - just sold a mint one in Set for £2k after having it for 4 years -only had to buy 1 tyre & back exhaust - best & most reliable car ive had so far and has brilliant handling (no room to swing a cat in if you need luggage/kids space..)

Philsykes,
I have for sale a 4 door, Ex Police XR4x4, which hasnt been run since i collected my Scooby. Its K reg, 1 of the last, and its cheap at £600. I would offer it to Harj but I doubt he would be able to power slide it, having seen the way he drives

Agree with mully and co.
Try a Sierra 2.9i 4X4. Good fun if a little thirsty. 66/34 power split means you can still get the back end out.
Because of the fuel cost the cars are next to nothing to buy, but if you just sold the Scoob you should be used to buying fuel.

OK, Thanks for all the replies chaps.
I think I'm gonna cheat and put the price up to 2500 this will get me a car that I first had a couple of years ago.
Mazda 323 4wd import 1989 G with air con abs etc. This is not the early one, it's a similar shape to a 205 and comes with 185 bhp standard.
Phil.

Phil,
If your going to cheat, do it properly, raise the price to 5 or 6k and buy a BMW E30 M3...
Moray
(A looked after Nova GTE makes a nice toy and give 30 to 50mpg depending on how much fun you want... mileage isn't as expensive as putting it on a scoob, either. )

If you want I have a N/A 924 that I'm thinking of selling in Guards Red, Highish miles but in good condition and well maintained. I'm looking for about £1500
You won't find a decent 924 Turbo for less than £3000
