Finally got my boost gauge installed, and I have noticed that when flooring the throttle (in a suitable environment, of course ), I get a maximum of 12psi which quickly drops to a steady 10psi.

I've done a search but can't find much info on this. I thought that boost was supposed to peak at 15psi and level off at 12-13psi.

The car is a MY99 4 door and the only mod is a SS backbox.

Have I got it all wrong, and if not, is this something that I should bring up with my dealer ? Can they adjust the max boost to bring it up to spec ?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Where have you fed the boost gauge from and if you are worried get your dealer to put there monitor on it and read the boost from that and compare it to the boost gauge. I am running mine from the inlet manifold from the blanked off port on my MY98 car.

Mine is run from the same place ...

All of the other pressures appear to be as expected (ie 20 psi vacumm on idle etc).

Question

Which gauge is it?? You have to bear in mind it is only a mechanical gauge, and it hasn't been calibrated!!!

The changes of it giving a misreading (more/less) is quite high.

The only way I was confident that mine was fairly accurate, was seeing the max boost on a rolling road, and the gauge reading about the same!

It might be the car, it may be the gauge, but there is no way of checking with what you have at the moment.

Maybe someone could shed some light on how to check this, without the expense of a rolling road session???

Sounds mighty low to me. I have a MY00 (so same engine), P1 backbox and Unifilter air filter as the only real mods, and in this weather I get 15.5psi peak, 15psi held on a good day - never less than 14.5psi peak, 14psi held though. If you're down to 10psi, something ain't right... Most people seem to get about 14psi peak, 13.5psi held on a stock '99 or '00 so it might be worth getting it checked out.

Cheers
Richard
