Red face

Jacked my car up at the weekend using the standard jack from the drivers front location (to remove the front wheel) and the screen cracked. Now has a 6" crack starting at the outer edge (drivers side) then turning 90 deg upwards. Spoke to the dealer and got the usual 'never heard of that' and 'not a warranty issue'. I'll contact Subaru UK to find out if they have had any other reports. Anyone else had this happen to them on a UK 99MY?

Iain

Happened on my STi5 (yeah not a UK car but same year) and I was told this could be because STi Type R's have thinner screens. Interesting to hear that this probably isn't true.

Don't you have glass cover on your insurance policy? I'm presuming you're fully comp so it'd be easiest to sort it out that way. It won't affect your premium and should only cost you £50 ish.

Richard,

I am afraid it IS true that STi cars do have a thinner windscreen. I just bought one last week thinking I would replace it on my 5 after a couple of stones left their small marks, but then decided to have it repaired. Now there is a brand new windscreen and all mounting and other bits there as a spare.

P1 cars have the same windscreen as STi ones and it was a UK Subaru dealer who brought my attention to the fact it is not the same piece of glass as on UK/Europe cars (also more expensive).

If my memory serves me well, glass was one of the reasons for IM not importing STi cars. Strangely enough, the same glass met all the standards when P1 was "homologated".

regards
q.

Oh bugger, ive got a huge stone chip on the windscreen of my Type R.

Can somebody please definately confirm that the glass is thinner, if so what should i do? Can you fit a P1 screen?
