Sold Car Need Help x 2?
Ok it's not really the same circumstances as the last 'sold car need help' thread so don't pick the pitch forks up yet and chase after me. I believe the new owner is on here and i'm not kissing **** he is a nice bloke and i'm gutted for him but not sure really what I can do. Sorry for the essay in advance!
To fill you all in briefly. I wanted an M3 as it was the car I wanted at the time I got a Scoob but they were holding around £16k at the time so I went with a Scoob 14 months on the prices of M3's dropping I opted to sell my car and get an M3. I found a chap who was selling an M3 and expressed he might take a STI in PX. Also a big factor is this year i'm doing alot of travelling across Germany 2-3 times a month so 800 miles each way (*edit - trip) I felt an M3 would be suited better than the Scoob.
On Monday he travelled to me in the M3 and we spent around 2 hours 30 mins looking over each others cars and paperwork, I took him out in mine for around 15-20 mins on a 10 mile run and he took me out in his for a 5-10 mins on a 5 mile run, I then live local to a guy who runs a BMW Specialist Garage and has 30+ years experience with them so had him look over the car to check it was sound which it was.
That evening we struck a deal and HPI'd each others cars etc.
The following day I px'd my car plus '£x,xxx' on the Wednesday this time I drove to him signed all paperwork etc.
Today is the first day he's driven the car himself as when we originally met we didn't drive each others cars. He's rang me and been very polite asked if I would be interested in exchanging the cars back because he doesn't like it being so lary and prefered the M3 which was power on tap but could be driven and cruised at 40-70mph all day long comfortably.
What can I do to assist? I feel really guilty now both of us have sent away log books, I love the M3 i've got now and first trips to Germany begin Sunday where i'm away for nearly all of Jan and Feb. Yet he's not taken to the Scoob and doesn't want it.
Where do I stand, is it my choice to PX back although both cars would have 1 new owner so possibly both de-value. It'll be hard for him to sell as not many people will buy a car a owner has had for 3 days.
Ideally I want to keep the M3, as hence the PX and $$$ i've upgraded in my opinion, the Scoob might not be as good a car hence $$$ went his way.
Feel guilty and sorry for the new owner now

Surely you think something like this through before signing any paper work over etc.
If the said guy did not like the Sti then he should not have agreed on a PX. You have sent the log books off now so a new owner will be registered to both cars..
A bit of a nuisance and clearly not well thought out tbh.

now that you have signed the papers both car will be worth a little bit less now, the deal is done and no going back. you's should of test drove the cars you was buying!!!!! if the guy was selling the m3 why does he want it back?? he can just sell the scooby on and get his money that way
its pretty stupid buying cars you aint driven yourself, for the obvious reasons stated that you dont like the car/comfort

The deal is done and you have the counterpart to the V5 so the car is yours. Honestly if he didnt do his homework on the car it's his own fault.
Keep your M3 or you'll only want to go through this again in another month. If he wants to change the car back to an M3 i'm sure Munich Legends or someone like that will be able to source him a car.

personally i have swapped my cars many times some have been good swaps some not so good i have been cheated lied to on other hand i have done some really great deals infact the scoob i currently have was a swap for my saab . however once you agree on swap sign and pass over logbooks as far as im concerned deal is done thats the nature of a swap if you havent done a good check over more so even driven the car more fool you .. if you love the m3 keep it if you feel guilty about it swap back but if it comes back and as faults well !!!!!!! just be warned ....good luck on your desision mate hope all pans out ....
but you shouldnt have got rid of scooby lol yuk for a bmw

Indeed, who knows ho the car has been treated in the time it left your ownership, not saying it is the case but you never know..
There is no nice way to deal with it but you have every right to keep the M3.

Just think of it this way. If you did not like the M3 would you have expected him to swap back if you had changed your mind.
You've got the car you wanted fair and square.

Agree with everyone else - it's not the kind of thing that you would do without being pretty sure about it. If he's now unhappy, then he could part-ex the Scoob at a garage. I sympathise with you though, as I know I'd feel guilty in your place too, even although you've no reason to.

Imo he should have done his homework before buying because i part ex my old my05 STi for a M3 in May.I took it for a test drive(motorway and A Road)and enjoyed it so i bought it but after a about a week i started to miss my Impreza because the M3 couldn't do what a Impreza does, and the M3 imo has to be trashed to get the best out of the engine, the brakes are crap, headunit can't be replaced with aftermarket one(something to do with the heat matrix behind) and never use a jet washer because it can damage the paint(2 M3 owners told me that and the main agent). So i sold it in Oct and bought another STi and i couldn't be happier.
Edited:I set my heart on a black SL500 which was at the same dealer at the time but it was just little out of my price range

I dont think you'll find anyone that thinks you should change back. Could be a complete minefield. Additional owners, additional problems with the car(s) that werent there originally. The fact he would probably keep the M3 so an additional owner on the logbook wouldnt really be a massive issue but you on the other hand, i pressume, would still want to sell the scoob which would immediately raise the issue of another owner.
Also, log books would need to come back, be signed and sent back again. As you'll be away, that could prove a logistical nightmare.

He will just have to sell it on and take a loss on it if he wants to shift it nothing you can do about it.
Haven’t seen many 03 blobs fetch more than 7k recently but yours was nice.
I would have been interested myself but it’s a little out of my price range

Always test drive the car before you exchange, if insurance is the issue, I am sure it is possible to arrange for some kind of comp policy to test drive.
Also, if you are leaving Sunday, that leaves you in a real bad position, if you wanted a car change before leaving.

extra owners on the log book might of been a 1 owner could now be a 3 owner if you swapped back .
depends how much you are missing your scooby if you miss it ask for more money than you gave and ask him to service it first but by the sounds of it you would rather stick to the m3 due to motorways

agreed with the above statements.,...
The Deal has been done and just because he now realises that he doesnt like the STI is no excuse.
Its his loss and he doesnt have a leg to stand on...
You shouldnt feel bad as you are completely happy with the deal. Dont feel bad for him because he doesnt like it....Tough ******* IMHO.
Good for you...

im sorry but that just comes down to hard cheese. log books are gone, money has been exchanged theres nothing wrong with the car its as it was when he agreed to take it against his m3.
however if your considering going back, tell him you want an extra grand to make it worthwhilst as its the impreza thats going to be worth less at the end of all this.
personally id just say sorry mate the deal is done, I dont want to offend you but this was the right deal for me and im happy. tata
