Angry Kwik Fit = Rip off

The missus took her car(renault megane) into kwik fit Monday for a service and MOT sounds simple right? Well, We droped it off at 9am in the morning told it would be ready by lunch, thought brilliant!

No word by 2pm so she gave them a ring and they said the breakes are shot and its gonna be £400 for front and rear disks and pads + VAT I thought what a load of tripe I got a good friend of mine who is good with a spanner to have a look and he said there was nothin wrong with them(a bit of wear but nothin mojor)! Anyhow we thought we better do them because he wont put it through its MOT! which he then said he carnt do till Wednesday due to a computer fault

The garage then Ring back at about 3pm and told us one of the mechanics had cut a fuel line by accident and they wont be able to get the part till tuesday so they had to keep the car overnight!!! but they would cover this as it was their fault..............

So, got the car back Tuesday morning and went to get the parts from andrew pages in Stockport for £90 And a couple of hours ferriting around finally got them done!! I give my mate £50 for doin' it so I saved £260

I wanna know where these people get their prices from and what training they have as it seems they are just a load of idiots who dont know what they are doing, OR just wanna' make a quick buck prying on women who dont know best?

MOT tomorrow gonna' give him a piece of my mind if he fails it!!

I would never take my Subaru their in my life!

sounds about right for them! my pal worked for them years ago and part of the training was to sell at least £400 worth of work on every car that came through the doors! allegedly

A lot of places like this do sadly tend to prey on women, my other half a while back took her 1.2 Clio into a garage to get some tyres replaced, they talked her into getting all four done (naturally), with some $hitty budget ones at £65 a pop.

Thankfully she phoned me before committing.

This doesn't stop at cars, tradesmen seem just as bad.

It is funny their brake work always about 300 to 400 mark. Last time I went there (10 years ago) with my old mini it needed 350 worth of brake work

I think it's partly trying it on with women to, national gyres were always good at that every time my mum took her car in it needed loads of work but not when I took it

Ditto with my wife's vauxhall corsa - one nail in front nearside tyre - they try and get her to have 3 new tyres.

mate its kwic fit , they prey on women and vunerable people . had the same thing

my mate (who is a girl) took her car for 2 tyres and left it at kwic fit to come and meet me and pals at a pub round the corner . 05 corsa with low milage .

got a call about 20 mins later saying all her pads were worn out ( id changed them about 2 months previous ) the two front shocks were leaking ( they were checked when i donre the brakes and were like new as the car has only done 12000mls) and that her catalyst was blocked/broken(bollox as it had had a new cat at vauxhall due to a fault with the downpipe at 8000mls)

she was really upset and said for me to go up with her to kwic fit where i was met by a spotty little manager saying the car is unsafe to drive and the work had to be carried out and it had been checked by their level 5 mechanic or some ****e!
to which he rattled off the price of the work , nearly 550 quid :shocker:

i kept quiet and said id like to see the worn parts to which he said oh you wouldnt know what u would be looking at, to which i replied i think i will , im a landrover , tvr and lotus trained technician , u should of seen his face lol easpecially when i told him to get the f8ckking car off the ramp and i will be taking this up with his head office , lets just say we left with 2 new tyres ,

just shows u how they make their money eh theiving little ***** !

Only in extremes will I use a kwik fit. I asked them to change the rear section of my Jeep - I supplied the part after ringing them for a price and they never bothered coming back to me. I bought the part off ebay and didn't have time to fit myself. £20 cash job - only decent result I've had from them.

I asked them to set the geometry of my old GTIR after putting standard suspension back on and the car went through brand new goodyear F1s in 2 weeks

made a fatal mistake of leaving my scoob with them for something I can't remember now and my car was seen being thrashed on the dual carriageway. I was told, rang Kwik Fit to complain and had a huge row over what "road test" actually meant. I also got word through friends that some of the kwik fit boys wanted "a word" with me for complaining.

Another tyre and exhaust place local to me I used I dropped my scoob off and they obviously opened the door with the keys in their hand as they scratched the door above the handle.

They are truly f*ckwits.

certainly are, i took my last car there (before the scoob) because the exhaust broke (rusted through the joint between the centre pipe and backbox).

guy looked at it and said it needed whole new exhaust from cat back, and ordered it up. took the car back down there for the fitting, but they'd ordered the wrong backbox

anyway, told the guy i needed the car for work so got him to replace the centre pipe and forget about the backbox - he took some convincing but did it in the end, saying the backbox was shot and it wouldn't last more than a few weeks.

sold the car 22,000 miles and 18 months later with it still going strong

in addition to my last post, my mrs works in an office which overlooks a kwik fit centre. she regularly says their staff do donuts in any RWD cars their customers leave around their car park before putting the new tyres on. customer never finds out because they were end of life tyres being swapped, but their car is still getting ragged by some pikey

I tend not to use these type of garages for major work, although my friend does own orbit tyres in wellingborough and rushden and any new tyres, or little things I will take there. My MOT 2 months ago was done there, and for it to pass, my brake discs and pads had to be replaced front and rear, which I knew was the case anyway, they quoted me £650 altogether including fitting. Must say I was shocked!!!!! Spoke to my mate out the front and he said "You do know garages like these will give you a quote with just standard parts from the nearest parts place like carmaster or whatever" and just recommended me to go buy the parts half price and uprated from the scooby shop in bedford (which to my bloody luck was closed for that week due to staff holiday or something!) well annoyed, lol. So I had to go through with it in the end. He seemed gutted for me and promised me some big discounts for any work in 09 needless to say he has sorted me out some bloody cheap good deals this year

Not all are that bad, but I'd only recommend going to one if you know someone who works there and trust! Any big work needed for my car I'd definately take it to a Subaru specialist. Most probably Zen round the corner from me

I try to never use Kwik Fit due to the reasons you have all said.

But the other day i needed a new tyre and they were the only place open.

they took my wheel off and guess what they said?

Oh your brakes need changing, they are about past it.

Well the discs are just over a year old and just about have a lip on them and the pads have 7-8mm left on them.

So how the hell are they past it

bloody con men.

and £130 for a mid range 18"tyre that ive never heard of

I get Kwit-fit to change my tyres and thats all!!!!!! They actually got me out to look at some damage on my wheel (which I knew about) before they touched it so I couldn't blame them for doing it. Still wouldn't go there for anything more than fitting tyres.

I caught my local Kwik fit out last year, i had fitted new discs and pads on the monday and went there for a tyre on the wednesday car had coverd about 80 miles since the brakes were fitted. And as said above when the took my wheel off the guy said to me "your going to need new pads aswell mate" Which my response was "shove your pads up your ar$e" when asked by the manager why i was abusive to one of his staff i told him the pads were 2 days old! Needless to say he shut up quite quickly

The only thing I use them for is to get my wheels balanced which they do a good job on & the price is very fair. It may be because I watch them while they do it - I'd never walk off site. I checked out their tyre prices which seem to be on a par with other tyre places - may be the state of the market but £58 for a 14" Vectra budget tyre! Got three off Ebay instead for a tenner with 5-6mm tread left on each.

Heard many a story of "backbox had a small hole in it so complete exhaust renewed" & "needed front pads so new discs/pads changed all round" e.t.c. If you have any doubts & need to use them then I'd just advise you to stay on site while the work's being done & ask to keep the old parts to see the wear on them (it's what I ask my engine builders for when I get them to do work - mainly out of curiosity really).

Thank the lord I have a brother with a garage.

I used Kwik Fit once before, for an exhaust on an E21 BMW, they ripped me off to the tune of £120. Never again.

last time I went there was around 8 years ago, had two new tyres fitted to my cavalier and the tracking done, drove out of the garage straightend the car up let the wheel slip through my hands and the car dived violently to the left and straight up on the pavement. tracking my ar*se. I have never been back.

On the other hand I generally get on well with two other tyre fitters in weston, friendly and they let me negotiate a bit which all helps!

I needed a new Cat for an MG ZT 1.8, MG made the system as a complete unit when they built the car, designed to be cut as and when sections need replacing. Kwik-fit didn't think I knew this and tried telling me the whole system would have to be replaced, circa £600.
I went to an independant specialist who fitted me a stainless steel cat with lifetime Guarantee for £120 fitted.

Hate quickfit with a passion, I won't even buy tyres from them unless it's desperate

My sister had the same problem just at the start of December. She went in for pre-winter check, they came back telling her the spare tyre needed replaced, 2 shocks needed replaced and the exhaust was leaking.

Heres the best bit, the spare wheel wasnt even in the car. Also the car had an Mot done the week before at Nissan's. So she knew there was nothing wrong with the car as the car only done 30 miles.

My mate used to work for them, an old fella come in once and his boss told him that all the front and rear disc's and pads needed changing, so he went to start work on the car only to find there was nothing wrong with them, so he jacked there and then on the spot, he went for a sandwich and a brew came back an hour later for his tools, and low and behold the car was on the ramp havin the work done.
