Default Scoopless Subaru; performance drop?

Seen a lot of scoobies on the NASIOC running spoilerless and scoopless. I really like the look however won't removing the hood scoop be bad for performance

Removing the scoop does give the car a more clean look (which is what I'm after) but if I'm not wanting to go the fmic route so am I just asking for trouble?

The scoop's there for a reason so, like you say, if you arent going to put the intercooler on the front, leave it be. I really like the spoilerless look though.

having a scoop with a fmic would do nothing but put clean air into the bay but it wont allow air escape the best thing imo like that scoob has is a bonnet that will allow the hot air to escape the bonnet as the fresh air get s pushed through the fmic and through the grill.

edit**

taking it off with tmic would be bad lol didnt read the post proper

you could always fit a charge cooler if you cared about the look so much

Isn't that a reverse scoop in that oic ie, The FMIC takes in the air, heat is let out through the reverse bonnet scoop, keeping egine temps down

I've been toying with the BMW 3-series lip spoiler in place of the standard low spoiler, either that or an STi8 one , can't make up my mind yet.

But yes, the despoilered look makes it look nice and clean

Does the scoop also direct air down over the turbo, well it does on my RA.

So taking the scoop off is that wise given the heat generated in that area...

I too like the de-scooped look though wont be changing anything unless its safe to remove the air flow from above the turbo

Granted this was considerably quicker than you're likely to go normally - but just to underline that the spoiler isn't just for decoration on cars like ours!

If I had a front mount I would probably lose the scoop and replace with a reverse bonnet scoop

ANT - got a new scoob yet ;-)

That spun when he backed off, don't think a spoiler would have much difference, anyway who does 183 MPH.

I run with no spoiler and have never noticed any lack of grip etc.

You would be fine to remove the scoop, my turbo is wrapped in a blanket to keep the heat in - well the housing is the compressor is open. And I no longer have the chimney on the top as the front mount pipe is in the way.

Have you bought the team ice pipe yet?

Subaru part is only £100 and you get a rear brake light for that too.

<----- View my scoob.

I've changed my rear lights since the photos were taken as it looked wrong to me with those lexus style ones and a subtle spoiler.

Taken from the youtube clip

it's in the description. he thought he could squeeze out some more speed by taking off his wing, but when he had no wing and let off of the throttle, the lack of downforce induced an incredible amount of instability and he spun out

This debate about the merrits of the Wing have been debated several times in the last 3 years in the US when the wingless look started taken off . The bottom line is if you track the car quite seriously and most people dont have the HP or Torque to be considered legitamate track stars, leave it on .

But if you just run around the track for shi** and giggles by all means take it off . There have been several cars in the US that have big power and tracked without a wing with no problems at all .
