Default Advice needed

Hi from Cyprus.... My girlfriend and I are looking at buying an 02 Impreza WRX in the new year, well my girlfriends mind is pretty made up so should rephrase that too... WE ARE buying.

Anyway just thought I would ask you guys what to look out for, I know the car hasnt been ragged as I know the people selling it and the spped limits out here prevent you from going anywhere near 80 mph , it is full UK spec and will be returning with us when I finish my tour out here in Feb 2010. Just need to know if there are any common faults that I should look out for.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Steve

I'll give you the same advice I give anyone buying a performance car.

Full inspection by a specialist is the only safe way to suss out whether it's a good un.

cheers bud, it is going into the Subaru garage for a check up before I hand over my money but was just wondering if there is anything specific I should look out for

It has a full Subaru service history and there has been no expense spared by the couple who own it when its come to maintaining the car, as they had planned to keep it but a recent posting is forcing them to sell it.

Good stuff! They're not really known for any problems as such, well looked after they're pretty much bombproof, but the key to it is good maintenance and an owner who doesn't drive everywhere like their trousers are on fire!

Just play the test drive by ear and listen out for any ominous sounds from the suspension, drivetrain etc..

You're gonna have to live with it, so give it a throuough test drive and query anything you don't like the sound of.

Good hunting!

The car we have in mind was shipped to Cyprus pretty much straight after they bought it so its in better condition than you would expect a UK car to be for its age. Plus with the national speed limit being so much lower than in the UK plus the SBA land being the most policed land in the world, there isnt much chance to thrash it and its being used as a family car???? The couple are taking it to Subaru and sorting out anything that needs to be done before giving us it and the MOT was done in October so should be a pretty sound car if there is nothing to look out for

Cool

Trust me outside the SBA there's plenty places to thrash a car in Cyprus.... there's a really nice stretch of motorway before Paphos thats used as an emergency runway i know someone who did a hell of alot more than the speed limit on that and some of the mountain roads are tremendous.
But you say know the sellers and it's been a family car so all should be well. As long it has been serviced at a Subaru dealer over there and not some of the cowboy backstreet garages that are everywhere there should be no major problems.
By the way i wish i was still over there, best time i've had in 20 years in the mob.

Defo alot of places outside SBA to thrash a car, I rent a house up towards troodos and that road is great for thrashing our Celica but yeah the car is used as a family car as they have a young kid around 18 months, full scooby history from dealer in Limassol.

Second posting out here, must have done something right in my career, granted first time was only 6 months on the sunshine tour and this time is only 2 years, disadvantge of being Army on an RAF camp I suppose
