i'd say that the general concensus is that most Sti bottom ends will be safe to at least 400 bhp if it has the std fitted forged pistons

Look on Andy F's website and it shows what you need for different power bands

When a car has covered 68k is just a lottery to what state they,ll be in, just wondered if ot,s risky upping the power towards that level on an engine with that milage...

Standard internals can take 400/400 but for how long? What kind of boost levels are we talking to achieve the magic 400? I would think you would also need a new gearbox?

I think there,s a few on here running around 370ish on standard boxes IIRC, again, luck of the draw, how you treat it etc.

Im running 393bhp & 368lbs/ft and ive done about 15 good launches on the drag strip at this power and the gearbox is still holding out

And when i say launch i mean sidestep at 6000rpm

The sti 3 bottom end is good for 400bhp but the rods wont take more than 1.7bar boost. I ran my gearbox at 389bhp/363lb/ft of torque for about 10000 miles before I broke 5th gear and swapped to a P1 box.

You may possibly get 350bhp out of the vf34 but it would be on the limit, my personal choice would be an 18G.

It will get you around the 380bhp mark with plenty of midrange grunt and good spool to boot

I,m in two minds Banny tbh whether to have a forged build done on the car, or for now change the turbo, fit a FMIC and run it on the standard internals at around 360-370, and also see if the box lasts too, suppose it makes more sense at the min than chuck 7-10k into a build....

DECISIONS...

I would go down the standard internals, turbo change and fmic route and enjoy the car before you spend any significant money on it
