I want a track day car & have been advised that the 2.5 engine is not as strong as the 2.0 (I am looking at a spec c type 25)

I would have thought this would be an ideal track car, lots of torque

The normal twin scroll car is very torquey so you may be best looking at a spec c (one for sale in the for sale section at a reasonable price).

The 2 litre would better suited to track use in my opinion as it prefers to rev. You should be ok with the MK1 T25. It has forged internals, although not to the spec of the MK2, it should still cope.

Tony,
Their is torque and their is TORQUE! If it's driveability that is required, you can not go far wrong with a 2.5ltr.

Paddokx,
Who ever advised you of that is clearly not in the 21st century. 2.5's can be very strong. My Spec C runs an enchanced version of the MKII Type25 Road Car set-up. It's main purpose was for track use and produces over 500 of each. It is based on Litchfield's Spec C Time Attack winning Race Car, so is more race car than road car spec wise...... but it will set you back a small fortune.

However, as a track car I would tend to agree with what has been said about the 2ltr Spec C. Pound for pound you can not beat the set-up out of the box. The MKI Type25 is a good bit of kit though and will have better driveability than the 2ltr lowdown. Higher revs and the 2ltr will come in to it's own. The MKII Type25 is a whole different kettle of fish though, but so would be the premium.

The t25 spec c is a rare beast, powerstation recommended the 2.0l & advised the bottom end was not that strong

Surely the t25 (especially the spec c version) would still be alot of fun, I am no expert driver so would I really notice the difference.

Yes, that is what he is basically saying. The 2.5 motor makes for a lazy drive as such as it produces it's torque lower down, so therefore overtaking and general everyday driving is a lot more relaxed so to speak.

The 2 litre reminds me more of a VTEC motor in that it seems happier at the higher revs. It produces it's power at higher rpm. Motors that like to rev are more suited to track use as you are more likely to be the higher rev range more of the time under track conditions.

My car makes its peak power at 7,695rpm. It redlines at 8,000rpm. Just to give you a general impression.
