newbie to scooby net!! snow driving gutted!
hi guys
new to scooby net. on my second impreza though had -
94 wrx import my first impreza was love at first sight.
bought it with a few modifications on it already full hks exhaust and air induction kit, gauges etc
Then i had a audi a4 avant 2.5 diesel (180bhp) liked it but never gave me the thrill of driving like the subaru
now driving a 2003 wrx (uk) much better than the audi and better to drive than the old wrx.
ninja backbox, hks air filter, sti alloys.
i work in bamberg germany, got up this morning to find 6inches of snow thought would have some fun on the way to work !!!!!! big mistake
driving down the road about 30mph was taking a left hand corner started to slide to the right was in the middle of the road so had plenty of room...
put the power down abit controling the slide (what i thought) just touched the brakes ABS kicking in 1 second later front end in the ditch..........
thinking to myself what a complete tosspot i had been.
got out of the car to find it was solid ice i was driving on with snow on top i coudlnt even walk around the car without grabbing on.
got in the car put it in reverse and tryed to get back on the road..... no ****ing way was i getting out of that one, had to walk back to the village about 5mins to get a mate to pull me out.
drove on to work about another 15kms got out checked the damage-
bonnet dented
numberplate in bits
front left fender dented
front bumper cracked and loose
not so bad could have been alot worse!! still gutted though.
been using bridgestone potenzas re050a, good grip in wet and light snow
but now thinking winter tyres could make all the differance.
thats how my days going so far!!!!

Alot of people forget that the snow packs into the tread of the tyre, making it more like a slick than a summer tyre, hence you should have winter tyres in countries with heavy snowfalls, because they are usually studded to give you the grip on packed snow

This is why many Germans have, in the back of their garage, a spare set of wheels, usually narrower [and steel] to cut through the snow, with proper low temperature rubber compound, snow and ice tyres - all for about £1,000 - probably about what you'll spend on the repairs.

You're very lucky indeed! Driving on Snow in Germany without winter tyres is illegal. If you'd have hit someone you'd be deep in the smelly stuff!!!

Sorry to hear about the damage to the car mate. Not a nice thing at all and I hope the insurance pays out as they usually refuse if you were driving in those conditions with summer tyres on.
A lesson in german mathmatics.
1 - got up this morning to find 6inches of snow
2- bridgestone potenzas re050a
1+2 = Bus
Glad you were not hurt is the main thing.
