Just service it yourself, do you really think a subaru dealership service will add value to your car in the current climate

A f.s.h may not add to the value but IMO it will deffinately help sell the car when it's time to sell up.
When i bought my subaru 3 months ago i wasn't interestred in anything without a f.s.h, 12 months m.o.t or above average mileage.

Just incase you were wondering i recently got quotes for a 50k servive and cambelt change and the prices were

Subaru dealers (Northampton) - £399
Scooby clinic - £299

i got the oil filter and a couple of bits from Subaru and got it done by someone a lot cheaper - and thats someone who knows scoobs inside out and would probably do a better job than Subaru anyway.....

Not fussed about Subaru service history tbh on mine.

changing the oil and filter on a scoob is a 15min job (30 with the undertray)

the oil filter is in just about the most accessible position off all the cars I’ve owned

I change mine once every 3-4 months 5000 miles

Its all about getting a stamp in the book, I am sure that you have the ability to do a service yourself but that stamp in the service book is ultimately what you pay for.

Joking right?

if it is on tight it is right pain as there is no room to get a filter puller in. Well that was my experience doing the between change change!

FSSH might not be worth keeping up but as stated FSH makes the car easier to sell. 70k isn't a big service and mine is going for it soon. Will ring round a few places for a good price. Subaru garages seem to vary wildly in their costs though. My cambelt at a main dealer was just £300 same as the specialist and i got 10% off for SIDC membership.

Bah, ***** to stamps My car's only worth about 5-6k, and is far from standard anyway... I'd rather keep the money in the bank than pay upwards 10% of the vehicle value for a service

I'll keep my car until it's worth breaking for parts and/or weighing in at the scrappers

Everyone's circumstances are different, of course... If I had a new car I'd be more worried, but my car is now 5 years old so no point in paying for servicing anymore (well, no point in paying someone else to do it for me, I mean. It's still serviced, of course)

Deffo not joking

i,ve got a MY00 Wagon -- not sure about yours

The filter shouldn't be on that tight, doesn't need to be

but if it is I use a tool similiar to this (Halfords do one)

I suppose it make up for the spark plugs being a bit of an ****

I agree about the oil filter location (MY00 also)
I just use my Kung Fu like grip to loosen it off.

With regards the general question. My cars are always 5 years + old when I buy them, so I'd have no intention of ever go to a dealer for service. Always do my own, and its not hard to have a service stamp made for 20 odd quid.

well -- i was going to say i undid them hand -- but didn't want to sound like a gorilla

and i,ve never understood why on a car more than 6 years old people take then to main dealers (or any garage) to change the oil

Well i'm not convinced that mine was done properly by the previous dealer i bought it off. Despite being stamped up etc the oile was dirty so the first thing i did when i bought the car was change the oil. I've done loads in the past so not a novice there didn't seem to be enough room to get the handle in the space round the filter.

Eventually got it off and put the new one on hand tight and with a bit of oil round the seal like you are meant to!
