Default Engine Spluttering

Hi all. I've been looking to buy a Classic shaped Scooby. I drove a UK spec model yesrerday and it was nice. A little tame but very clean. Today I drove a Jap spec wrx. It was driving perfectly until I tried to open her up. As soon as the turbo kicked in the engine spluttered before picking up. It done this 3 or 4 times each time I put my foot down. The guy from the garage said he has had 4 of these and they have all done it and its normal. Iv driven several turbos and none have done this. I was looking for some advice. If this is a regular problem or if someone has had similar experiences. The guy said it hadn't been serviced since its import and this would be done with a change of all belts before being sold. Apart from the misfire it drove A1.

IMHO i would leave it and go and look at another! If you have a bad feeling now whats it going to be like when you get it? You will be wishing you never botherd.

Keep looking until your heart and gut feeling tells you it's right!

It also only my want a set of plugs in it but you never know!

Car Run's But Misfires / Misfires When Boosting
The increased Boost can highlight weakness in the ignition system that you were getting away with on standard boost.

The vast majority of 1993 - 1996 Impreza that have this problem have tired or damaged coil packs (they are over 10 years old now). Remove the individual coil packs from the top of the spark plugs and remove the rubber boot from the plug end. Check for cracks in the plastic under the rubber boots of the coil packs and replace as necessary. Signs of cracks is a good indication they are at fault, but they can still be providing a weak spark even if they look O.K. Most people that replace a set of coils are quite surprised how much better the car feels, even as standard. Cost for a set of 4 Coil packs is approx. £200 - £250
Coil Packs, just a thought

Just about to replace mine on MY95 STi.

It's a buyers market. If you want it haggle hard to get it repaired/serviced. Don't hand over any cash until you are 100% happy it is running right and there is warranty in place to cover future repeat problems. Otherwise walk away. There is a lot of nice kit out there begging for new owners to love and cherish them at bargain prices.

On the UK versus JDM debate (assuming UK 2000 versus WRX, not the high flyers which are not in the same price bracket)

UK car pros
MUCH cheaper/easier to insure
run on 95RON
rustproofed as standard
Much more relaxed gearing for motorway and fast A road work.
Subaru don't have an eppy when you ask them for a spare part.
Get a late one with 4 pots, aircon and service history then mod it to the same power as the jap imports (you'd probably mod whatever type you get anyway)

JDM car pros
Average 40 horses more as standard.
You get a rear washwipe

Just my humble opinion and I am sure it will start an argument.

How many miles has it done? Any history? Any marks inside/outside?
