In theory it is meant to, as it release any pressure built up, so that the turbo keeps spinning.
You probably won't notice any difference, apart from the noise.
On the upside though it makes the car pop and bang, and also whoosh.

i have a turbosmart d.v same as you and and in regards to the running mine has seen no problems at all although it does get in the way of the double breather rail on the I/C so it's coming off, probably bung the standard one back on for now

That's one way of putting someone off fitting one!
I always thought it was a bit of a gimmick, "look at me I have a turbo" vrrrrrrmtshhhhhh.
But I can see the whole engine rebuild having to be done in the long run of some of these dv's.

the DV is pretty straight forward to change only a couple of bolts and a couple of clips to remove
the only thing that makes it a little tricky is the intercooler may need removing to allow better access.
It certanily made the job a lot easyier on my STi but that has got the slightly bigger IC.
at most a garage should charge an hours labour

At last someone who can use the search option. The best DV is the one Subaru fitted. As for air filters leave the standard air box on with a good filter fitted.
