Default removing front spat of a classic WRX

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to remove the spat (splash guard) from the front wheel arch of a classic WRX?

It looked easy as first, with a screw and some sticky strips to remove but in practice it wasn't so easy!! The screw simply turns and turns!!!

Does the screw usually fit to a bracket? I gather mine has probably rusted and fallen apart but can't see how I can get to it as the wheel arch liners are held in place by the spat!!!

I am trying to remove it as I have only got one fitted on the front and it looks silly! The other was lost before I bought the car!!!

Is this going to be a drill out job?

Cheers
