Intercooler alterations
I've been asked by a fellow Scooby owner to alter an intercooler but am not sure of the wisdom of it ! He drives a MY00 and has a TMIC from a STi 7 or 8 and an old I/C from a classic. Basically what he wants us to do is cut off the inlet pipe arrangement from the classic I/C and weld it to his v.7 one so it fits his car. Before we start carving it up and attacking it with a TIG torch I wanted to know if the intercooler fins are soldered in - if so there's a chance it may melt if we hit it with a 600 amp welding set ! Has anyone done a similar alteration like this before ?

Harvey is the intercooler expert here. His opinion - don't bother going to the hassle of fitting a new age intercooler. If you haven't got an STi intercooler then that's worth changing from the standard item, otherwise it's front-mount all the way.

That's exactly what I said to the guy, he may as well go front mount. But I think he's trying to save some cash & had the STi I/C given. Thanks for that link TingTongPJ, very helpful
